American tourist busted with bullets at the airport

Bradford Bryant

American national Bradford Keith Bryant will be spending the next three weeks at the Hattieville prison pending trial for possession of unlicensed ammunition. Bryant was busted with five rounds of ammunition while boarding a flight to the United States.  At about ten-thirty on Thursday morning police visited Delta Airlines’ office at the Phillip Goldson International Airport where a search of luggage belonging to Bryant was conducted.  The search yielded a small ammunition box containing five bullets that was hidden amongst his clothing.  When asked if he had a license for the ammunition Bryant replied that he did but in the United States.  He was subsequently arrested and charged for keeping unlicensed ammunition.  The thirty-nine year old tourist appeared in court today before Magistrate Aretha Ford where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.  Due to the nature of the crime Bryant was denied bail and remanded to prison until June fourteenth when he is scheduled to reappear in court.  He is being represented by attorney Ellis Arnold.

NOW WHY WOULD A “TOURIST” NEED AMMUNITION WHEN ON VACATION IN ANOTHER COUNTRY? IS HE SOME KIND OF HIT MAN OR P.I.? WE NEED TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER PROPERLY AS HE’S ALREADY “LAWYERED UP”. KUDOS TO THE POLICE ON THIS ONE, GOOD JOB.

  2. USA says:

    BRAD IS AN INNOCENT MAN.

  3. Belizeanpride says:

Damm, they should have give he man bail, he was not caught with drugs and he dd not kill, or they could have just took it away from him. The Justice system in Belize suck.

  4. John says:

Brad was in Belize sportfishing spending money in Belize. He apparently left some bullets in his suitcase from his deer hunting this winter. Common sense needs to previal in this circumstance.

  5. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

in one way it’s good to show the americans that we are not so easy on our airports. guys try do that in the u.s at any airport and youll be listed as a no flight person. plus a jail term or deportation with no visa for the rest of your life. so it’s good in a one way but the other kinda hurts our tourist point of view i understand you guys but let it be done by the law.

  6. DEE says:

do you actually thinnk if you get caught with bullet at a us airport they going to let you go being a foreingner. some people make me wonder. It’s against the law so don’t do it .

  7. CHRIST'S KID says:

TRY TO BAORD AN AIRLINE IN THE UNITED STATES WITH AMMUNITION AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS…..

  8. Flipper says:

The Bullets were in the checked bag, The bullets were left in the luggage from a previous Hunting trip. IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW IN THE US TO TRANSPORT AMMO. A MAN WHO HAS NO CRIMINAL RECORD ANYWHERE IS DOING TIME FOR A MISTAKE IN A PRISON THAT IS HORRIBLE. Those are the facts……………….

  9. Lisa says:

No way, no how, can a belizean or any other foreigner enter the US with ammunition and not get put on a list…you will dealt with and labled for life. If you you bring food thats looks funny, you will be pull into a room and possibly put on a watch list for a next time…this is bullets not food….in the US, this scenario will be harshly dealt with…..

  10. island dude says:

Our country is very dependent on Tourism especially North Americans where more than 50% of our tourism comes from. The Tourism Industry is a very delicate one and our authorities must give priority to this as they carry out their jobs. This leaves a very bad impression on how we treat our tourist and I have seen countries suffer immensely (as in Aruba for instance) due to one criminal incident. Their Tourism revenue was declined by more than 60% annually and it took them years to recover. ( You may recall how the authorities in Aruba handled the case of the American Girl that was murdered. Do we want that happen to us here in Belize in a time when things done “haad out Deh? I don’t think so. Maybe the US embassy should have intervened and put the guy under house arrest until his case comes up. Does he deserve to spend two weeks in prison for this? Now if the guy has a criminal record, then that’s a completely different situation.

  11. GeorgiaLiving says:

Brad is a fine upstanding person in our community. He has always worked with the kids through our recreation department and is a great coach. This is just a horrible mistake. I’m sure that he saw the ammo and thought nothing of it like most of the law abiding hunters here in the states. If you are over there Please help this guy out cause we feel helpless over here. I know many young men that would love to have their coach back home.

  12. Flipper says:

Simple mistake….He has no record and was there carrying clients on a well desereved trip. When you look at this Mans Character and know him like I do you all would understand that he needs to be released. He did break the law and should be fined and released. His wife, kids and friends are devestated and pray for his safe return to the States. It is easy to bash and to read things into this story if you don’t know him but you need to remember people are hurting and are sitting on pens and neddles awaiting word on his fate. We are praying for a good outcome.

  13. Student says:

The family of Brad Bryant needs to take this story to the press in Georgia.
Send it to the Atlanta Journal or your local television broadcast station. Contact your local journalists ASAP.

  14. Dwende says:

If a Belize man were caught in a US airport with that he’d be paraded in an orange suit in front of the worlds press and then locked up in Guantanamo bay for the rest of his life – no trial nothing. That boy be lucky to have proper civilized old fashioned Belizian justice in a real court of law.

  15. Student says:

Dwende, as Flipper said, get the FACTS:
    http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1188.shtm

“Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts may only be transported in checked baggage. Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts are prohibited from carry-on baggage.”

And, Bryant’s ammunition was in his CHECKED BAGGAGE, abiding by the rules.

This is from the Official U.S. Department of Transportation Security Administration Web Site.
And, Bryant was flying to the United States.

  16. Student says:

BUT, then again, he was in Belize at the time of departure and had to abide by Belize’s laws.

He was warned on TSA’s Web site:

“Also, please note that many other countries have different laws that address transportation and possession of firearms. If you are traveling internationally, please check with the authorities at your destination about their requirements.”
    http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1666.shtm

    He should’ve checked.

A harsh punishment, nonetheless, especially for carying recreational hunting ammunition in checked luggage.

  17. forgeorgialiving says:

georgia living, can you post your email. if he’s a friend of yours, then maybe he needs someone to speak on his behalf. im sorry he made a mistake but it is a crime. and honestly, i travel through the U>S> and i think it is better he got caught here in Belize than in the U.S. the prison sucks here, but it would have been worse if he got caught importing the bullets into the U.S.

  18. nolesfans says:

how about somebody to to the belizian resident who was his tour guide, the one who knew he had accidently left the ammo in his bag from a previous hunting trip and told him not to worry about it, to just put it in his bag? if its such a big deal there, shouldn’t this guy have known that?

  19. nolesfans says:

i haven’t heard any mention of this, but he asked his tour guide (a resident of belize) what to do when he realized that he had left the bullets in his luggage. the man told him not to worry about it, that it was no big deal. seems to me that as big a deal as it is there, this man should have known that himself and should have advised brad accordingly.

  20. hmmmmmm says:

    I think Clueless is Clueless….

  21. Bulba Martinez says:

Flipper, “Ignorance to the law is no excuse!!!. It is one’s responsibility to check his/her suitcase(s) during packing before travelling, especially knowing that every Airports security are checked thoroughly for everyone’s safety. I personally will not compare the security or consequencies one would endure in another country for such mistake, but I can tell you and everyone Flipper, the world will know now that our Security System and our Officers in Belize are doing their job, the very same way most of the world did not know where Belize existed on the Map. The rest is up to our Law Enforcement Officers and our judicial system to do their part. Flipper, I am damn sure this guy or anyone else would be detained and charged in Chetumal, Melchoir, Salvador, Cuba, and sure enough in America where he’s from. The bottom line is, he should know better Flipper, most foreigners think that Belize is like a Sift, where anyone can do whatever the hell they want. We in Belize or anywhere else should not entertain or encourage anyone when a crime is being committed, whether it be a mistake or not. Just remember Flipper, that Judas sold Our Lord Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of Silver and you must not trust no shadows after dark, especially in this era my Bwai. Safety first, dis da nothing yet mi Bredda, right now wi noh know who all deh eena wi country, if you know whe a di talk bout. If not, start fi think mi friend and think again. We have a long way to go to get back the beautiful and peaceful Belize we once live in.

  22. Bryan says:

First I would like to address many items of this and the responses…
Ambassador Vinai needs to intervene in this. I would like to state why, he is measured as the person to smooth relations for the US and Belize relations, and he, and he alone, holds the responsibility of that action, which is his job. This is not to save an American from the laws of Belize. Hattieville is not the place to allow the point to be made. If the point is to be made with Hattieville, then the point will be made to a level that Belizeans will not want to be made. Please understand that Belize is at an opportunity that it has never faced before, the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico now have been, and will be for the next 3 years, destroyed for tourists. To understand the scope of the tourists that decide to visit those beaches to spend their vacation dollars, Belize now has the opportunity to court the tourists that have a vacation, but not the location to go to. BTB should be strategizing on the method to convert the tourists to Belize. Secondarily, Belize has the opportunity to revive the shrimp industry. The Shrimp industry in Belize has been devastated over the past years, but with this occurrence, 80% of the US supply of shrimp is gone for the next 3 to 4 years. These are all export dollars that come to Belize.
One incident promoted by the preening of the justice system in Belize will taint the US in any reference to Belize. After living in Belize since 2005, obtaining bullets for a “300 Magnum” is impossible, much less the rifle to use the ammunition. If I wanted to obtain a AK-47 or 9mm, that is far much easier, not to mention grenades (reference crime statistical weapons used in Belize, with multiple grenades still unaccounted for, time will allow their accountability).
Responses to this post have included the statement of “That boy be lucky to have proper civilized old fashioned Belizian justice in a real court of law.” I speak of that court of law that historically the accused walks free due to no witnesses ever testify, as the response of the Prosecution is that the witnesses cannot be found. Why? Their life depends on it. There is truly no witness protection process in the county of Belize.
To give background on the policy of transporting weapons and ammunition in the US, there is no issue when the weapons and ammunition are checked as baggage, and declared. They are tagged and stored in checked baggage, not accessible during flight. Obviously, the 5 bullets were in the baggage prior to leaving the US. Full X-Ray of the luggage in the checked baggage is conducted in the US screening process.
The bottom line is that Belize needs to really decide what is news that will be posted all over the world, and is that the news that it really wants to represent Belize. When flirting the number one industry, Tourism, does the presentation of the news represent Belize? Typically, the top 5 news stories are of murder, corruption and robbery. That is what is presented of Belize to the world. Belize has the opportunity to stand up now, and be recognized. Stand and be recognized for what you offer the world, and what the world can offer to Belize. If Belize wants to use the nuclear weapons of the press, realize that the fallout will be effective for many years, it is a two sided arsenal. Think about that.

  23. rigrat says:

Well now we have folks from the USA trying to tell Belizean courts what to do. This man came to Belize and broke the law. Whether he did it accidentally, (as I suspect he did), or deliberately is kind of irrelevant until he tried in a Belizean court of law. He will probably receive a slap on the wrist and served with a deportation order, which is probably a lot less than a Belizean found with illegal ammunition would receive in the USA
It is irrelevant if he deserves to be kept on remand or not. The penalty for an alleged firearms offence in Belize is to remain on remand in prison without bail until the case comes up. If a ‘special case’ is made for this man, then there will be special cases made for all sort of criminals. Then we have Flipper shouting that it is not illegal to transport ammunition in the USA. Well so what? It is illegal in Belize, especially the magnum ammunition he was carrying. USA law does not take precedence over Belizean law. It is exactly this sort of arrogance that makes people around the world dislike the USA so much.
Plus he is a flight risk. If he were let out before going to court he may skip the country.
Oh, and then we have some student saying that the family needs to take this story to the press. Well go right ahead, it is a story of an accidental law breaker who found himself having to go through the legal system of the country where he broke the law. Just like any other person. He is not a special case.

  24. crime free belize says:

I am a belizean living in the u.s,and i know all too well about being from another country, getting caught for a crime here in the u.s.first is getting arrested, then the 10% of the bail, then it’s the costly court battle, then the punishment, right after being detained by I.C.E,then another costly court battle and detention with no bail, with a 99% chance of deportation,oh! i forgot, making the headline news as a terrorist being from belize, which will undoubtably cast a very dark shadow on that country. What is so special about this one american person,a lot of stand up belizeans get’s detained and deported every year, being separated from family an love ones, for minor offenses.Listen american’s it’s never personal,it’s the law of the land, respect our’s,because we must yours. And as far as the aruba comparison,an law abiding american citizen with a little common sense, would not boycott a country simply because one of their countryman broke the law in that country. It’s not suprising to hear how arrogant so american’s are, they act as if they posses diplomatic immunity around the world, come on people get your heads out of your ..,then again this innocent american, packed his bag unaware of the bullet’s,went to belize, opened it in belize to gain access to clothes which he wore in belize,an still did’nt see those bullet’s wraped in his clothes, bull****.

  25. crime free belize says:

And to the island dude,it’s call due process.dude u sound more like an american than a belizean,or at the very least a want to be american. With people like u,belize does’nt need any enemies, thanks for standing up for the sovereignty of our country, then again it sounds like the love u have for our country is only pocket deep.Belize needs strong leader’s,not puppet’s.

  26. Miami Belizean says:

    Dwende says:

“If a Belize man were caught in a US airport with that he’d be paraded in an orange suit’

can you imagine if he had a Quran in his bag with the ammo!!
Airport lock down, tactical police team.
    next stop… Guantanamo Bay.

  27. cat dog says:

Come on now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you and i both know that if a belizean or ANYONE was caught with ammo in his suite case at an international airport in the US, it would not just be fined and release. I’m not asking for a witch hunt. Only for justice to prevail.

  28. Richard says:

I am an avid hunter and American citizen. Just wanted to point out that ammunition is not illegal in the United States. It’s not illegal to check baggage containing ammunition. Especially in such a tiny amount. I’m not sure what “license” is being alluded to in the article, none is needed to transport ammunition in checked baggage. Just wanted to insert a touch of fact here. I guess that degree of freedom seems alien in Belize.

  29. Bulba Martinez says:

Bryan, I understand exactly what you’re trying to say, but guess what, the law of the land still stand and will remain the same whether your’e a Belizean or an American. I agree with you that our Law Enforcement Agencies and Judicial System has failed us, but we as a Country has to start cleaning up this mess now. I can give two Coconut Husk if the error with screening Bradford’s luggage initiated in the United States, I stand predomintae my friend, YOU and everyone, including myself is responsible to check, re-check our luggages before travelling. I usually don’t know who the hell is sitting next to me while traveling. That being said, I need to know that we are all safe while travelling to reach our final destinations. Don’t give me this Bs about how many different weapons and ammunitions are in Belize, you and I both, along with so many law abiding Belizeans need to find out how they get to Belize in the first place. Belize noh have no Guns & Ammunition Manufacturing Company Mr. Bryan. Maybe I should think, Bradford’s mistake can be utilized by other IDIOTS to bring in more Ammos into my country?. Now it’s personal Bryan, “MY COUNTRY” and I have the right to protect MY PEOPLE AND MY COUNTRY if it will cost us the Tourism Industry, Shrimp Farm, or any other investments you people think you can threaten us POOR BELIZEANS with. Please don’t forget, “when one door is closed, the other is open”. Belize has struggled since the Colonial days and I am in no means think we should go back down that road again my friend. Venezuela and Taiwan is also investing in our country and there will be more to come if we start cleaning our mess. We have our own internal problems to deal with other than to entertain or baby sit idiots that know’s better than to travel with Guns or Ammunitions. You can go to hell and if you don’t want to abide by the Laws Of Belize, then get on the next flight out with Ammunitions in your luggage and see if you will be welcomed with open arms in Miami, Texas, or anywhere else in the United States. Have his Ambassador do what he has to do for his release and it will be his decision if he ever want to come back to Belize, if not, then every law abiding foreigners and Belizeans are welcome.

  30. crime free belize says:

Well bryan sounds like a white guy living in a beautiful suburb somewhere in the u.s,in case u forgot, the u.s also has many not so beautiful getto’s,in every big and small cities here in the u.s.Sorry but let me inform you, what is realy going on out here on these mean street’s,in getto u.s.a.Ak’s,grenades and the latest in weapons are also available here in los angeles,so what is realy your point, and for dam sure you wont get a slap on the wrist,if u get caught breaking the law here in the u.s,unless you are willing to be a snich, and by the way have you heard of the stop sniching campaign in getto’s all over the u.s?Well i know of a hand full of people that got out of their muder charge, because the witnesses feared for their lives,or did’nt want to be labled as a snich. To me u sound like a fool,or you must be living under a rock, not to mention the police corruption here on these mean street’s.Bryan, and as for witness protection,it only applies to federal cases, you realy sound like u know a whole lot about nothing,so please keep your money, and go visit the u.s virgin island’s instead, you or your money will not be missed in belize.

  31. crime free belize says:

To bryan, and to all the other arrogant american tourists traveling around the world, not because your white, with a little money to spend, does’nt mean you automatically get a get out of jail free card, from the country you are visiting,or a special holding facility for only american’s,remember you are traveling international not domestic, there is always other u.s territories, that u.s laws apply, spend your hard working monies in the u.s.

  32. Bulba Martinez says:

Richard you can jump high, jump low. When you’re in Rome, you do as the Romans do and that goes for Belize as well. As an American, you know damn well that every country has their own laws that everyone has to adhere to. You need not to insult our inteligence, because you know fully well that if anyone, including Americans are caught in Mexico with Weapons or Ammos, you will be detained and probably be put under the jail. Stop whining and try to either bail or pay your American brother’s fine if this should be the case. I’m pretty sure that if anyone makes any mistake contrary to the Laws of the United States, he/she will still have to go through Due Process until found guilty or innocent. It might not be illegal in the United States to transport ammunition in checked baggage, but I guarantee you that you will be interrogated harshly at anyone of your American borders or Port of entry. I know for a fact that if you are being pulled over in a Pick-up truck with Fertilizer along with other chemicals, and the Cops have reasonable doubt to believe that your intention is to cause harm to yourself or others, you will get a drill of you life with intensive interrogation. This goes for Americans and I know for damn sure it is more difficult for any foreigners in your country, especially after 911. Here in Belize, we use Fertilizer and other Chemicals for agricultural purposes, no problem. The Government of BELIZE have the right to enforce our laws, which is owed us all law abiding citizens of our beloved country, whether you like it or not. If you have a problem with the Laws of Belize, please take a trip to Singapore with ammos stashed in your checked baggage?. We in Belize would like to know about your outcome and experience.

  33. American guy says:

Let him go he ain’t done a dern thang he got a wife ad kids at home and also work he HAS to get bak to he’s inacent and plus it’s a sept up if it watin they woulda went off in america. Thank bout it now.

  34. Richard says:

Wow, it seems to me from comments like Bulba’s that this has more to do with not liking Americans and less to do with the threat of Byrant’s 5 bullets. What’s with the anger? Do you really feel that threatened by a half box of deer ammo? Makes a guy think twice about coming back.

  35. Richard says:

And further Bulba, your nation imports the majority of its food from the USA. I assure you we move fertilizer around just fine.

  36. Bulba Martinez says:

Ricahrd it goes both ways, we appreciate importing the majority of food from your country and the U.S. should be gratified for boosting it’s economy from an impoverished nation like Belize, even if the profit is a penny more. There’s no hate or anger towards Americans my friend, our country as well as most other nations goes through Due Process within the judicial system when a crime is being committed. We as Belizeans has to abide by our laws and so do everyone else. If you or any other foreigners cannot abide by our laws, then maybe you should go somewhere else, because we as a nation is struggling with our own internal mess as it is. Again, we have no time to Baby sit anyone and there are consequencies for everything in life my friend.

  37. Student says:

Bulba Martinez, Crime Free and the other neanderthals posting comments on this story, please look at TSA’s Website: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1666.shtm

  38. crime free belize says:

Well student,u sound’s like the neamderthal,TSA rules does’nt govern belize, sound’s like you live under a rock, hope you are not wasting your time in school.

  39. Tim says:

the guy is found guilty with ammo, which is illegal in Belize. Be it accidental or not, it’s ILLEGAL IN BELIZE. Now, he has to wait for his court date, like any other judicial system in different country (don’t forget, we are an independent nation and we have our own laws to abide by). I think the normal jail time for each bullet is 5 years, so if he’s found guilty then he can serve up to 25 years in jail. Or he might be deported. This is a lesson learnt for him and any other travelers heading to Belize or any other country. If I were him and notice I have bullets, I’d throw that sucker away.. how much does it cost to replace it back?? like 2 US each. LESSON LEARNT and LET’S MOVE ON!

  40. SO DISAPPOINTED says:

I’m really surprised he even got arrested because I know how Belizeans adore and worship WHITE FOLKS, I was under the impression WHITE FOLKS can do no wrong in Belize. Hmmm glad to see they have to accept consequences like the rest of the human race. Maybe there is hope for Belize afterall.

  41. xd says:

he broke the law.let him deal with his ignorant mistake.. if anyone does that in america they will be conciderd a terrorist…. in these times there is no room for that type of error

  42. Bulba Martinez says:

Student, thanks very much for the info but this applies to the constitutions of the United States of America. This does not change another country’s constitution one bit. Our Laws will be enforced to the fullest and all travelers are responsible to find out the laws of another country before going there. Again, ignorance to the law is no excuse. Stop whining and get the Belizean Big Picture. There are three Americans that wondered into Iran from the Iraqui Border by mistake and are being accused of being Spies. This might not be the case, but they are going through Due Process as the government of Iran sees fit. My heart also bleeds for these kids, believe me. For your information as well as others, I lived in the United States for a period of 40 years, served our government in the U.S.M.C for 6 1/2 years, and spent my last 2 years in Nam. I learnt discipline at home in Belize and I sure the hell stayed with it in the Military. I am a disabled Vietnam Vet and have done exactly what I was called to do in the United States Of America to serve and protect. I am Blessed to be a citizen of two of the world’s best countrys and I will make sure that I abide by their laws as well as any other country. Last but not least student, I had to declare all weapons and ammo that I brought back with me to Belize. I had to get the necessary license/permits before I could have brought them into my country and that was my responsibility to find out. Let’s join hands and pray for Bryant and those three Hikers in Iran to go through Due Process smoothely and rapidly. Everything has a price, unfortunately that the way the world turn ok.

  43. Elgin Martinez says:

This Tourist was probably trying to test the system in Belize but fortunately you got caught white bwai.Serve you time.Had a Belizean got caught with bullets in New York,he would have gotten atleast five years. And you being a tourist doesn’t justify your action. You comitted a crime Yankee Bwai. You are not above the law.

  44. Elgin Martinez says:

Richard:This is not about if Bulba like Americans?Let’s put things in perspective hear. This idiot comitted a crime. Are you saying that he is suppose to get special treatment because he is an American.Well guess what he is in Belize which means that he is going to deal with the piss house like everyone else.

  45. Elgin Martinez says:

Richard:This is not about if Bulba like Americans?Let’s put things in perspective here. This idiot committed a crime. Are you saying that he is suppose to get special treatment because he is an American.Well guess what he is in Belize which means that he is going to deal with the piss house like everyone else.

  46. Jones County Belizean says:

I am a Belizean living in Jones County and Brad is a coach and an outstanding resident. I agree that he broke the law and it is unfortunate. This is an unfortunate case that gives Belize a bad rap and unnecessarily keeps an innocent man behind bars for now. While I agree that america does not allow anyone to tell them how to run their country and apply their laws — there is a big difference in clout between most countries and america. Sorry but tourism is extremely important to Belize and this gives Belize the wrong image. When I got to work I had 50 emails regarding this story. Crime is rampant in Belize and the limited resources that do exist should not be wasted trying to teach or send americans a message about arrogance. This man like most of my neighbors hunt and could easily leave bullets in their suitcases after a hunting trip — its a simple mistake. What Belize needs to do is find who killed Aubrey and all these other productive members of society — find and arrest who shoot Janay and changed her life forever. This incident is a waste of time because the loosy. Police dehn need fuh di ketch the real criminals not Brad!

  47. Bryan says:

Bulba, first I would like to thank you personally on this Memorial Weekend for the sacrifices you have made. I too, am a combat disabled vet, for my country of birth and for the defense of the laws and rules of the world. My posting was not to be detrimental, at all, to the people of Belize, but to look at the bigger picture of the issues at hand. Before I go into that, I want you to understand that I do live in Belize, contrary to the posting by crime free belize, and chose to live here to make a difference. I am whole-heartedly for the people of Belize. My intent was to point out the importance, and power that the press has today. One negative commentary or report will devastate an entire economy. The truly extreme screams of a disconcerted citizen will go far and wide with the current availability of news reporting. Yes, I agree, whole heartedly that he should have never entered the country with ammunition. But, that did happen, and he was in a country with laws that are severe in dealing with the contents. What was he to do? Claim amnesty, and present to the local law enforcement authorities? Leave the bullets behind for use in the population? Yes, different decisions should have been made. I guess the appropriate decision would be to go to the US embassy and present them with the situation, but, depending on the day, an appointment would be required. The point of my posting was not, at all to belittle the Belizean people; after all, this truly is your country that you earned independence for. My goal is to see Belize become a world class destination, and smile and accept the tourist dollars, which promotes the overall economy of Belize. Belize has so many opportunities, resources and abilities.
I have chosen to open a branch of my company here to make a difference at a level that is from the bottom up. We have spent over 1mil US here to date, to make that difference, and have not asked for any concessions. We do not want to be politically motivated, but to make a difference to the people that need the difference. This allows us to choose whether to stay of leave based on our decision of our goals. When choosing a country to set up our operations, we chose Belize. 2009 data results of malnutrition is 60% of the children are malnutritioned. We are here to change that. We can feed those children for $1bz per day. If that is not accepted by Belize, like I stated before, we will leave. Yes, Mr. Bryant was careless in his packing for the trip to Belize, no one knows that more than Mr. Bryant and his family now. On one side, he should pay the ultimate price for bringing bullets into the country, but on the other side, Belize needs the tourist dollar. Yes, I understand that Belize laws are laws that are written to enforce and pontificate any person that chooses to challenge them. My issue is that it enters the press and their interpretation is presented to the world. Their written and spoken word is not verified for authenticity or accuracy. Their presentation is presented to the world. Corrections and rebuttals are normally presented weeks later and at the end of the pages. This is after the damage is done.
In the Obama tradition, I invite you sit have a Belikin to smooth over the differences.

Likewise to you Bryan, thank you for the sacrfices that you contributed towards a free and safe world, which our borthers and sisters are still fighting for, thanks again. I personally understand excatly where you’re coming from, but as long as the people that are responsible to enforce and amend our constitution are some of the very same people that are breaking the laws that we should all abide by, then we the law abiding citizens of our country will continue to be frustrated. Bryan, it is a rough and long road ahead of us, but we all still have to abide by the laws that are in place. My thing is not to judge anyone, it is the duty of our Judicial System to carry out that section of the law. We are all responsible for our own actions and should acknowledge the fact that there are consequencies that goes along with anything we do in life. Bryant made a big mistake and there is a process that he has to go through, this is all I’m trying to get everyone to understand. It has nothing to do with being hateful towards Americans or anyone. Our responsibility to Bryant not only as U.S. Citizens, is to lobby with the U.S. Embassy to make his transition period during Due Process be rapid and lenient for his release to go back home to his family. You and I both know what it’s like not being with and around our family members.

We as human beings sometimes has a tendency to fly off the handle and get carried away. Sometimes we say things that some people don’t really understand and sometimes some people take things out of it’s real context, or just accept to be pure ignorant. Then again Bryan, you have other people that refuse or ignore to do the right thing and have people like yourself fight for their freedom. I am not in anyway saying that Bryant did that ok. If crime of this nature is taken lightly in any country, it can also be used as an opportunity for hard-core criminals to believe that it is ok to bring ammos into that country. As I said before, we have our own criminals to deal with in Belize, which is obvious to anyone that it is way out of control. I hope that the U.S. Embassy will not waste it’s time listening to me and everyone else bickering over Mr. Bradford’s situation and try to expedite due process for him to know his faith. I really appreciate what you’re doing for the children of Belize, but if you’re not comfortable there, then that’s the price the children of Belize will have to pay. It is people like myself that are praying for a 360 degrees turn for my country’s safety, development, and success. God is the only one that is giving me the energy to hang in there for the love of my country, we don’t know who to trust. Too much damn mess my friend and it’s all behind political bureaucracy, while we all look like Jack-Asses trying to live under the boundaries of our very same laws. I will be leaving this week for my V.A. appointments and will be back in July, maybe we can hook up then. I might be in Punta Gorda when I get back, because I reside in Belmopan, Dangriga, and PG few months at a time. Send me your email address if you can and I will get back with you from Loma Linda. You can also send me contact info to: P.O. Box 1161, M.V. Ca. 92556. Semper Fidelis!!!.
