Conman sneaks away with tennis after paying with forged cheque

Michael Gomez

When he appeared in court today, fifty-two year old Michael Gomez was charged with Obtaining Property by Deception and Uttering and Claiming upon False Documents. Gomez, a resident of Mopan Street, allegedly paid for a pair sneakers, socks and jeans from Anil Asnaney of the Sensation X-Treme Shop located on Albert Street. Asnaney claims that on April twenty-eighth, Gomez paid for the items with a cheque from Social Security made out for five hundred and thirty-seven dollars. He allegedly presented IDs, appended his name, and wrote his house address on the cheque. The value of the items was one hundred and forty-two dollars so Gomez was given the remaining money in cash. But as it turns out, Gomez’ cheque wasn’t real so he was arrested this past Saturday. When police caught up with him, he was reportedly wearing the pair of sneakers which he bought with the forged cheque. Gomez will reappear in court on July seventeenth.
