Will the Prime Minister be the next Minister of National Security?

dean barrow

There has been talk of a cabinet reshuffle for some time, in fact the Prime Minister said weeks ago that it would take place after the village council elections. Well those elections are winding down now, so we broached the subject with him this morning. And which Minister will get the axe or who would move up?  Well, one ministry where changes are expected is at National Security.  The Prime Minister responded to whether or not Crispin Jeffries, the Commissioner of Police and Carlos Perdomo, the Minister of National Security would soon be dethroned.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I have no such expectation at this time, but you know I cannot tell a lie.  I continue to say that all options are on the table. I must look at especially in that particular context what will give the best fit.  I must also look at timing in terms of the implementation of the plan we are trying to come up with and when any changes that may be necessary ought to be made. So there are all kinds of factors that will have to go into the mix.”

Jose Sanchez

“P.M., visually you have been present at recent police press conferences. You are the face it seems in the government behind Operation Jaguar. It seems that you are taking the forefront for the Ministry of National Security.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“No that’s not true, but I have to concede that the people of this country quite properly so want to be certain that right at the very top, this issue is being taken with the seriousness it deserves. And so that is why the plan is principally being conceived out of the Office of the Prime Minister. That is why in terms of the advisory council and the steering committee and the project implementation committee, the secretariat that will service all these committees will be principally responsible to the Office of the Prime Minister. I don’t see that there is any real conflict between that continuing to accept the police department and the Ministry of National Security have a lead role to play in terms of what’s happening on the ground; particularly in so far as the policing efforts are concerned.”

As to when the reshuffle will take place? That date is still not definitive; but it is known that on June second the Prime Minister will be announcing his new strategy to combat crime, which may not be headed by Perdomo.

I think it is a good idea to remove Crispin Jeffries from his post in exchange for Barrow, although I believe that Crispin Jeffries tried his best to clean up some of the mess, his best is simply not enough.

Barrow is the most suitable person to replace Jeffries since he has more power and his influence could be more effective on a short time basis in the white house.
In this situation if barrow continues down the same path with no progress the people get a chance to exercise restraint, blaming him for the situation up front, force him to see that he is just a whiny, ranting, whinging, muppet-faced, Jackass, all talk and no action who should have never been voted in as minister in the first place.

This could force him to retire, indefinitely. Hope he is not too cheap to buy his own body armor.
But, let’s not hold our breath here; this is not likely to happen any time soon this is too much responsibility for Barrow to handle, and no minister in their right mind are prepared to be anybody’s scapegoat, “Crispin Jeffries” will do just fine.

Maybe PM Dean Barrow should be dethroned. You are the Captain of the ship.Perdomo is just one of your Seaman. At the end of the day Perdomo is only responsible for carrying out the orders given to him by the PM.The problem here is Dean Barrow and not Perdomo. With the escalating crime rate in Belize why havn’t PM Barrow request some amendments to the Laws in Belize to deal with the present crime situation.Just like how he is quick to sign documents to allow offshore drilling in Belize despite the fact that most of the Citizens disagree. He should use thesame agressiveness to combat crime in Belize but he is not going to do that because these criminals bring revenue to his law firm wake up Belize you guys are heading in thesame direction as Jamaica.

Definitely, Crispin, Barrow the whole party needs to go. The guy does care and know anything about the Belizean people. Ask him if his pay check was right, I bet his answer is yes why. Ask him about a murder scene, some bs like, well the log book…says, or at this time……lol He propable can’t even name the newest policeman.

You know like I’ve said, maybe we need some real people in office. People that knows about hard work. I guess we will have to call for assistance from the U.S, to aid in restructing and reforming the lifestyles of these crooked people.

    Barrow stop di lie!!

  5. OW RESIDENTS says:

People, change in Minister of National Security or even the head of security can not solve this problem alone! Government is doing very little to alleviate, the current unemployment and poverty in the country. Most crimes are those of stealing and robbery and killing for money. the people are broke have no jobs and have many mouths to feed. GOB put in place a good poverty alleviation program by creating new jobs by investing in industry. Handouts will not solve this problem but encourage our youth and people to be lazy and when handouts are there no more to steal and kill for money. Our people are hard-workers, give jobs gives us a chance to better our lives. AND PM if you guys can’t do it or wont do it give others who want the job the chance.
