Uncle and nephew shot in Belize City

fitzroy yearwood

While Operation Jaguar has been effective in slowing down criminals over the past week, one Belize City gunman managed to slip the watchful eyes of police patrols last night.  Shortly after ten o’clock gunfire erupted in the area of Mex Avenue and when residents went to the scene they spotted an uncle and his nephew suffering from gunshot wounds.  Police Press Officer Fitzroy Yearwood says an investigation is ongoing but so far no arrest has been made.

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“Well yesterday’s date around ten-twenty-one p.m. Oscar Sanchez and Manuel Rodriguez, uncle and nephew were walking on Mex Avenue heading towards Fairweather Street when a lone gunman approached them on bicycle and just opened fire at them.  Both men received several injuries. They were listed—Sanchez was listed in a stable condition but Rodriguez was listed in a critical but stable condition.  The motive for the shooting we don’t know as yet but investigators are following several leads.”

“Were these men able to identify who their attacker was?”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well not according to their, not according to the investigators.  Well, like of course the investigation is in its early stage.  So hopefully because much talking couldn’t be done by Rodriguez himself.  So hopefully when we can do that then we will know whether or not they could identify.”

When the shooters are caught they should be terminated on spot out of disrespect for the law and the operation.
I do not expect that the operation will be able to stop every gun crimes on the streets in the dark of the night some of them will get through the cracks, but when they are caught their penalty should be death.
This is a cause the public are more than willing to support.

The government needs to conduct a massive search of everyones homes. Specific areas, at the same time not making it known to the public, just search the entire neighbourhood. Lets use the BDF, and police department. Also to create a non-bias, behavior we mix the crowd, police and BDF.

I know there is a way to solve these problems, we just don’t have knowledgeable personnel in place to re-enforce the laws.

We keep saying get more POLICE/BDF, but why haven’t we forgotten to include ourselves. I know there are many families out their that know what their UNCLE, NEPHEW, BROTHER, FATHER, COUSIN is doing illegally be it drugs, crimes but, because it is their FAMILY, they do not inform the authorieties because they do not want them to go to jail or someone to silence them right away. They are very much a PART OF THIS VIOLENCE THAT IS GOING ON, even if they didn’t pull the trigger.

I completely agree with sasha…a lot of us know for a fact that someone close to us, be it our neighbor, friend, family member is participating in criminal activities and we turn a blind eye to it…that is not helping the police…the when something happens to that individual, we expect the Police to give us justice…

where was the justice when we were turning a blind eye?..

I know that it’s easier said than done but it’s something to seriously think about…

If we turn them in to the proper authorities, we might even be saving their lives…

  5. SO DISAPPOINTED says:

Sasha I agree with you 100% that is the biggest deterrent for criminals if their families would come forward that would cut crime by 90%. Wake up people and do the right thing….JUST DO IT

  6. Maddyvandijk says:

Sasha, are you living in Belize?

It is kind of hard for those of us not living in Belize to actually do something about it, there are many people living in Believe that are on this forum and no one is actually doing much about nothing. The people are powerless, so they speak their minds, and hope that someone with some power is actually listening.

  7. CHRIST'S KID says:

Like maddyvandijk above, as controversial as this may seem, I say that we…. as in the days of the Law for Israel—-and in bygone days in our own peaceful jewel, we should….. go back to the old ways of solving crimes.

Deu 19:10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance, and [so] blood be upon thee.

Deu 19:11 … if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die …

Deu 19:12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

Deu 19:13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away [the guilt of] innocent blood… that it may go well with thee.

Deu 19:19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.

Deu 19:20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

Deu 19:21 And thine eye shall not pity; [but] life [shall go] for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
