Venezuela’s gift of sight to Belize

Mission Miracle is the Venezuela’s government gift of sight to Belizeans.  The Venezuelans recently deployed doctors to Belize to examine residents who are afflicted with debilitating conditions. After consultations at free clinics throughout the country, the cases are assessed and qualifying patients are taken to an all expense paid trip to Caracas where they receive surgery.  Over the past few weeks, one such consultation has occurred and according to Emerson Guild, Mission Miracle’s Belize Coordinator, the next flight of patients bound for Venezuela is this weekend.

“This weekend we have the second flight of the mission miracle mission. We’re taking total of patients and coordinators, sixty-eight people.”

“And what different ailments are they going to be looking for in terms of treatment?

Emerson Guild,

“Pretty much that regiment won’t change, still cataract pterygium and strabismus. We are taking two children and their parents with strabismus and the other patients will be the general cataract and pterygium.”

“I know recently we had some kids that came back also, how have they been doing since they came back to Belize?”

“Great! Great! I mean simply amazing, the young child (Rydell Martin),from my neighborhood, which created this whole phenomena he’s going back to school without problems, he’s confident, he’s playing with the other children now. It’s just an incredible thing to watch.”

“How long do you see mission miracle being in operation in Belize?”

“The government of Venezuela with the cooperation of the Belizean government has created the hype which says that every single patient that suffers cataract or pterygium, or in the case of strabismus now, will be serviced. So, I can see this will be happening for some time.”

Last month three minors accompanied by their patients returned from Venezuela after receiving corrective surgery on their eyes.
