Robber charged after two failed escape attempts
A taxi driver, Hugh Meighan of Levi Slusher Street, was robbed and assaulted by his fare, but he fought back and even though his attacker fled, he did not get far. Last Friday, while on Crewman Road, Lionel Baizar, asked Meighan to take him to the area of the Complex Building via a back street which leads to the Western Highway. Meighan complied but at the intersection with the highway, things got rough. The passenger ordered him to stop, he did and his attacker punched him on the face, bit him on the jaw, and robbed of over a hundred dollars in cash. Meighan bravely pulled out a machete and injured Baizar twice but that could not stop the robber who sped off in the Toyota car. Shortly after, the robber crashed into a tree. Meighan was transported to the K.H.M.H. and that is where he came face to face with his attacker. When Meighan pointed him out to the police, Baizar dashed out of the hospital but the cops caught up with him behind the Social Security office. This morning, before Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer, Baizar was charged with Robbery and Wounding but could not secure bail because of the prevalence of the crime. His next court appearance is on July sixteenth.
