Hit and Run victim killed in impact

While police have their prime suspects in the homicides in the north and west, the investigation into the sudden death of a man from Belmopan may be more challenging to solve.  That is because a post mortem, which is scheduled for Tuesday, will determine whether the victim was murdered or was accidentally run over by a vehicle.  The mangled body of thirty-two year old Carlos Valladarez was discovered on the Western Highway at mile forty-four around four on Saturday morning.  Police are looking closely at the case because Valladarez’ body was found about a mile and a quarter away from his vehicle.

“On arrival the police find the motionless body of a fear complexion male person, approximately about five foot, six inches in height, with multiple injuries to his head and the back of his body. Well, the report came in as a suspected hit and run, from there police carried out an investigation; and definite around the scene, we did not found any debris from any vehicle.

At the scene we found a knife, which was found inside a scabbard and definite we have confirmed that, that is his personal knife. At this moment we do not have any conclusions, whether those injuries that this person had on his body, whether were inflicted by any sharp objects or is as a result of traffic accident. We have to await for a most mortem to be conducted and wait for the result of the doctor, to say what type of injuries on this person’s body. Mr Valladarez, he is from Belmopan, and his vehicle was found in Cotton Tree Village”

Aside from Valladarez’ knife, which police have recovered near his body, they also found his vehicle keys and wallet.  Valladarez left his home on Saint John’s Street in Belmopan just before midnight on Friday but the family does not know where he was heading. We note, however, that the police blotter is describing the incident as a hit and run.
