An early morning blaze in Corozal Town burnt a home to the ground with the occupant inside. Seventy year old Valerie Wade lived alone in the small concrete house and could not escape when the fire broke. Fire officials had to use force to gain entrance to extinguish the blaze, but it was too late to save both the structure and Wade, who perished in the flames. Superintendent Miguel Guzman, the officer commanding Corozal Police told News Five that they do not suspect foul play, but are investigating all angles.

“Sometime around five-fifteen a.m. this morning fire personnel from Corozal Town responded to a fire at a building situated at number 4412 corner of Flamboyant and Oak Street in the Halls Layout area of Corozal Town where upon arrival they saw what appeared to be a thirty by thirty concrete structure house with smoke coming from inside. What happened is they had to break doors and windows to have access into the building. It was apparent from the smoke that the fire was coming from inside one of the bedrooms situated on the southern side of the building. The quick response of the Fire Department, they were able to extinguish the fire and upon entering they saw the body of a female person lying on the floor between the doorway of the room and the hall. The female person was later identified as one Ms. Valerie Wade, a seventy year old female who was residing alone at the residence at the time.”

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation but basically what we have done following the discovery of the body, we processed the scene and then the body was transported to the Corozal Town Community Hospital where the medical officer pronounced her dead on arrival. The body now lies at the morgue awaiting a post mortem examination. What I mentioned, the cause of the fire is still under investigation but at this point in time, no foul play suspected. However, we are still investigating the matter.”
