Do you think Cabinet changes will restore law and order?

Prime Minister Dean Barrow today announced cosmetic changes to his Cabinet. The Ministry of National Security has been split in two and is replaced by the Ministry of Police and the Ministry of Defense. According to the Prime Minister, the changes are necessary in the face of the sweeping crime wave. Tonight’s question is: Do you think today’s cabinet changes will be effective in restoring law and order? I Believe it will make a difference because they can put their full focus on The Police Dept. obligation to keep law and order.

  2. Real says:

Success in any organization does not only depend on restructuring, it also depends on having a Strategic Plan, in this case, the so called ‘Crooks Report’. The issue with the Barrow administration is that they are not implementing the recommendations provided.

Where can i get a copy of this report??? I want to analyze it to see the technical viability and political feasibility…

  3. ceecee says:

Don’t see why they will change. They’re still as dirty as the day they went in..PLEASE!

  4. Warren says:

Anything will be an immediate improvement from the non-effective Perdomo. Not to knock him but Ministry of Defense is way over his head. he need a safer portfolio like the Environment or something.

  5. Charlie G. says:

While this appears to be a step in the right direction, it may be prudent for the Prime Minister to perhaps contract with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to provide oversight and guidance in the restructuring of the Belize Police Force.

    Respectfully,

    Charlie G.

I do not understand why instead of decreasing the size of the cabinet mr Barrow felt the need to increase it; we are in a recession and cannot afford all the addtional expenditure that will come along with these new ministries. I personally do not beleive that this cometic change will make a difference, Barrow and his government needs to find innovative ways to attract new investments that will create thousands of well paying jobs. Finally every effort should be made to make education more affordable and to have a school feeding programme for the underprivilidge kids in each school.

Darius believe me, with the situation of crime and it’s severity in these times, I don’t mind paying a few extra dollars if that will help deter the incidence of crime. yes we are in a recession but be mindful that we have an inflation in crime especially in senseless murders. This is no time to be ignorant! I am not a PUP or a UDP or any other kind of P, but at least the Prime MInister is taking a step to try and deal with the situation, and the reshuffling was good because we all know that Perdomo is just way too soft and is not educated in that field to say the least, to tackle something of this magnitude. We must try othr persons. Think, which investor would want to come and invest in Belize if they know that we are a crime ridden country? If we as the citizens do not feel safe here, what do you think about them? To do anything requires money, so if we were to say attract investors to do this, we need to spend money that we simply do not have much of. By tackling crime we will create an atmosphere that is conducive to investing. Then, the investors can take the natural resources and develop it themselves rather than us putting mass amounts of money into something that can be minimized for us as citizens.

And what I will agree with you is that we do need to make educaton more affordable (in my opinon it’s not solely affordability, it is availability also… there is a limit as to how many students can be in a classroom, so what we really need as well are more schools and more pedagogically trained teachers) (*not because you’re a teacher means that you can teach!)

*Singh, i know you thought that the Prime Minister was crazy or you would be crazy to be undertaking such a great task, but remember that we the churches as well will be praying for you, for your protection and wisdom. IN ALL THINGS, PRAY AND SEEK GOD’S GUIDANCE!

Sincerely, 20 year old Belizean Chick!
