Rodwell Williams shot outside Barrow and Williams

rodwell williams

The law partner of Prime Minister Dean Barrow was shot on Monday night as he left his law firm on Albert Street. The news of the shooting spread like wild fire across the city because it involved Rodwell Williams whose law firm was shot at as recent as April fifteenth.  Indications are that the shooting was not triggered by robbery, but instead a clear execution attempt on Williams.  Williams was rushed to the Belize Healthcare Partners where throughout the night and this morning doctors worked to save his life.   News Five’s Marion Ali begins coverage of this story at the scene of the crime.

Marion Ali, Reporting

Residents of Albert Street West heard a single gunshot just after watching the evening news.  When they looked outside they saw fifty-three year old Rodwell Williams, the law partner of the Prime Minister at the law offices of Barrow and Williams, lying on the company’s parking lot a few yards away from the office building. Williams had just retired from work for the day and was walking towards his vehicle along with a security guard when two men approached them and shot Williams.

Residents came out and saw two men running up Albert Street West towards the Yabra area. Williams was rushed to the Belize Heath Care Partners Limited for medical attention while police arrived on the scene and scoured for whatever evidence that was left behind. The only information they released on the incident came in the form of a sketchy press release which states that Williams was shot to the abdomen and the two men who shot him approached on a bicycle.  The police report also states that one of the culprits searched Williams’ companion before they shot him. Police also say they detained two men and that their investigations to determine a motive continue.

Meanwhile today, family and friends surrounded Williams as he was discharged from the Belize Health Care Partners to a waiting ambulance.  He was shuttled to an air ambulance which flew him to Jacksonville, Florida for advance medical treatment.  Marion Ali for News Five.

Since the shooting of Senior Counsel Rodwell Williams around eight o’clock last night Belize City police have launched an intense investigation into the incident and by noon this afternoon P.M. Barrow announced that two suspects have been detained for questioning.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I will simply say that the police have some persons of interest to whom they are speaking and it is my hope that they can quickly get to the bottom of what is, on the face of it, so brazen and brutal and vicious. I hope that very soon the police will be able to tell us not only who did it but why this absolutely cowardly assault was perpetrated against him.”

  2. gerald underwood says:

maybe the prime minister will start consider breaking some neck i would be the first to volunter to do the honor of breaking these loosers necks

  3. Maddyvandijk says:

It seems like the second attempt on his life, quite possibly he pissed the wrong person off.

Someone was waiting for him outside; this brave action of the shooter portrays someone with nothing to lose. But never mind me, because he can afford to leave for America on quick notice for expensive medical treatment. He will be back in office in a short while telling the media about his miraculous recovery.

What will Barrow do about crimes now?

  4. NEWARK says:

Now Mr. Barrow this hit hits close to home will you get up off your … and do something about the crime situation in Belize for God’s sake. The guns the guns the same way that drug dealer had the stuff shipped from america to Jamica is same way these people have the people in customs who gives them the ok to send these things in barrrell. Mr. Barrow you should sit in your office in Belmopan and dont care you never cared any way because you was always the type that only cared about the way you look in the public you would real good if you showed that you really cared.

  5. ang says:

I hope that as a society we fight perpetrators of these events in our country, we must be ruthless with these murderers no matter how you may feel about other people we have no right to their life, the PM and people who work for him deserve respect they are the leaders we elected and as such to maintain peace if you love your country assist in keeping it by cooperating, if we do not start somewhere our children will inherit a worse country than Haiti or Jamaica. God bless you abundantly!

  6. Hon says:

Now Dudas from Jamaica might be heading to Belize! Maybe since it has hot close to home the government will concentrate on the crome rate instaed of filling famiy pockets!

  7. baby D says:

But it is so funny as soon as he get shot everybody running to his aid , and flew out quickly to florida when there is so many local belizean people who needs urgent care and they don’t take them seriously ain’t that a ….h.

  8. LISTEN UP says:

Like I keep saying…Quarantine all these unemployed youths. Government need to secure some peace of land for agriculture. Stop importing vegetables…we can produce it. Have these unemployed youths learn to do this hard labour in order for them to do something constructive that doesn’t require any sort of education and can give them a salary.

If they don’t want to work….force them to do it. There is nothing wrong with this.

  9. Kamikaze says:

for Baby D, haha the man rich, he can afford to get everyone to run to his aid, he can afford private jet planes etc… so what? got a problem with that? the local Belizeans who need help don’t have money, so they won’t receive any aid, and that’s reality. everyone can do with their money as they please, and those who don’t have the money will suffer and that will always be.

  10. Belize It says:

I agree with Listen Up…….let’s keep Rodwell Williams in our prayers

  11. Oscar965 says:

Yeah “Listen Up” so if your sons or daughters dont have a job should they also be forced into your “hard labour camp”..Buay think before you post…Crime is a serious issue but hopefully it hit close to home and it will become a priority on the agenda of our PM…..

  12. Rainest--aka Piley says:

whatever was the reason it does not matter it was an attempt on a humans life,Rodwell was a school mate of mine and so many others and he is a genuine person and the bootom line is he is someones love onesomeones dad,or whatever the case may be it is ridiculous how a working person is threatened or fear for their life going to work or whateever Dean come on man you were our prefect our guidance thats why Rodwell is what he is today his family sacrifice for every thing he is today and i think as a friend of the family we must make Belize a place we would talk about and encourage so many Belizeans who have given up on our loving, beautiful , place that we were brought up with pride, and always help the other one//MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL—PILEY FROM PEN ROAD

  13. Al says:

Mr Barrow, is this close enough to home for you Sir. No one is safe in Belize, not even you. The recent event should show you that. Start hanging, these ….., The Bible says an eye for an eye. That means if you take someones life you lay yours down also. Start the investigation with the security guard. Why would they leave a witness, search him and leave him unharmed. Clearly the idea was not to rob, it was sending a message. A good leader is an effective leader, one who makes good things happen. Your leadership is filled with the country being robbed blind, by those who went into office with you. Homeland Security is led by a man who has no knowledge of what everyday security means much more homeland security. When the infrastructure of a country is neglected, the outcome is what you have in Belize. Wake up and let your presence be known or are you afraid of becoming a target. I predict that once you leave office you will head to America where you will spend blocks of time, leaving the poor natives in the hell hole. Leave a positive mark next to your name, make one tough decison that will count towards your legacy.

  14. Bulba Martinez says:

My prayers goes out to Mr. Williams and his family. My beloved Belizeans, as much as I don’t condone in violence, if Rodwell is the Sacrficial Lamb for our country’s freedom, then let it be. It is quite obvious that he is fortunate to be alive and to have the resources to fly him out to Miami. There are many grieving family members that are carrying the pain of losing a loved one because of extreme poverty, God Bless their soul and their family. I have said it too many times before that I pray to God that violence of this nature would not hit close to the homes of any Politicians, but unfortunately it did. Mr. Primie Minister, a lot of positive lessons to learn from this situation and one of them is to take heed from the crys of the people that elected you to protect and secure the safety of every Belizeans. Don’t make excuses for anyone and be fair when appointing responsible and experienced individuals into office. It is now time for you to sit back and think about every Belizeans safety and I know that you will defenitely do so because of this. Now let your arrogance flow rapidly in this direction, while we pray for Rodwell and other victims of these henious crimes.

  15. Proud Belizean says:

    Amen, Bulba Martinez!

  16. macal rivera says:

you people stop your negative comments!! Mr rodwell was a hard working man, all he have he work for, he did’nt go aroung begging siiting on the corner streets, looking who to Jack Up, common guys, he is well educated and I can’t remember when he ever defend a drug dealer, he never deserve this.
To the family I say it is written in the bible, God says VENGEANCE IS MINES, those men will run from themselves soon, believe me these men can kill his body but not his soul,
for those who payed to have mr williams killed, disaster will soon come to them, believe me!!!
my prayers are for his full recovery ,and comfort and strenght for the family at this time.
SOME DAY EVERY KNEES SHALL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE CONFESS JESUS IS LORD!!

  17. Sasha says:

To all you negative people, Rodwell was able to get THE BEST MEDICAL TREATMENT because he went to SCHOOL & is SUCESSFUL. Your KNUCKLE HEAD KIDS are the ones paying his SALARY FOR DEFENDING THEM so STOP COMPLAINING. For you Oscar, this is why CRIME RATE IS HIGH, because you along with the REST OF THE LAZY PEOPLE just want to sit there and GET HAND OUT, instead of teaching your kids that HARD WORK is HONEST WORK. ROBBING/STEALING is easy but you will end up bad.

This is the biggest WAKE UP CALL FOR BARROW, THEY COMING AFTER YOU BRO FOR NOT LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE CRIES.

  18. Proud Belizean says:

    Well said, Al.

  19. ceecee says:

Hmmm!…if we poll most Belizeans i’m sure most of us don’t give a rats %%%.At least he got a 5% chance of living. So many of our youths are in a grave at Lord’s Ridge Cemetery as just a statistic. All of a sudden now we must have respect for the people that have no respect for us.What a damn joke.In life you get what you give.Mr barrow have no interest in making Belize a better place. His interest is to get his pockets and the pockets of his family filled before his 5yrs is up.with all that is showing on tv about that huge oil spill in the gulf ,he is still interested in pressing on for these people to do the same in our beautiful waters.Wake up people. Can’t you all see what this man is doing? Its all about him and his family and screw all Belizean citizens. No one ran to the aid of these kids getting killed in Belize now we are supposed to have sympathy and pray? Who was praying for them? Surely not Dean Barrow and Rodwell Williams.I have no ill feelings against Mr Williams but who the hell is he? I simply think they shot the wrong man.Lets hope that now Dean sees that he might be next and do something about all the corruption amongst his dirty cops and the rest of his filthy departments, and get up of his fanny and do something.

  20. Fed UP says:

I disagree with all you folks. This is a GOD size problem we have in belize. The church are failing the schools are failing the government is failing. Poor people cant you see that what they are trying to do is keep the poor poorer n the rich richer. Do you think the Prime Minister cares about the crime situation??? Its doing exactly what he wants let the poor whipe themselves out. Rich kids get there education, more than 3 meals a day , vacations , vehicles etc. Wont continue as i am getting more fed up. All i have to say this is our country take it back!!!!!

  21. ceecee says:

God bless you Bulba….well said and to macal…i usual ride with you but not today. When we look at situation,we really don’t need to have Dean Barrow where he is cause he’s doing for the country. The criminals are the oones running the country with fear .What is Mr Barrow’s purpose in that office besides occupying space?

  22. Sasha says:

Nice words Mr. AL, you speak just like the AL, I useto work with in L.A. The difference is that THE SO CALLED LEADERS IN BELIZE really don’t care about a REPUTATION. They can break HELL LOOSE and still run for RE-ELECTION and the people will still want them to represent them. We need to GET RID OF ALL OLD POLITICIANS and bring in the YOUNG TALENTED ONES THAT WILL WORK FOR THE BETTERNMENT OF THE COUNTRY AND NOT FOR A FEW LIKE THE ONES THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE THE CONCEPTION OF BELIZE.

YOUNG BELIZEANS, TAKE YOUR FUTURE BY THE HORNS

  23. Alloyson Graham says:

To my fellow belizean. Rodwell Williams is my first cousin. I’m very disappointed in the way some of you comments, like you all are condoning what happen. It should not matter if its Rodwell or a stranger on the street, no one should take a person life that should left for God he giveth and he taketh away. I seldom read read the Belize news for this simply fact I am sick and tired of hearing about killings. To those who are mad with him flying out to the US, His FAMILY CAN AFFORD TO DO THAT. If any of his family member was ill he would have done the same. If you know him you can’t help but love him. He is a genuine loving , caring human. To his wife , daughters and the rest of my family I’m praying for the speeding recovery and strength for the family especially my uncle Rodwell Sr.

  24. John Boy/Carson, California says:

It is plain and simple. If the man have money it is because he work hard to get it.Maybe if some of you lazy azz would get up and get a education then you would have money to take care of yourself.Instead of knocking the PM, Rodwell, and Shyne you should be knocking yourself for being stupid.

  25. Bulba Martinez says:

Macal, I agree with most of what you’re saying, but please be careful of some of the things that you say because the most toxic thing on every human being is the tongue. Please don’t wish disaster on anyone because of their belief or otherwise. Repent now, it might be one of the things you will have to answer to when your time come to bow. We cannot change what happened to Rodwell, but if we as a people use the nonsensical attack to destroy him in a positve way and surrender everything to God, God and God alone can/will change it for the GOOD of us all, his children. Macal, our Almighty Father in Heaven is our Ultimate Judge and even the devil himself will bow down to HIM one day. There are too many innocent blood flowing througout Belize caused by the evil one and his saint (thugs). Instead of fighting each other to have the evil one and his saints jump for joy, why don’t we all pray together, ask Our Almighty Father to rebuke the idiots and wash our entire Nation with his Precious Blood?. For me, if I have to point any fingers, I will point it on our Leader and I beg no apology. Our Prime Minister is responsible for anything/everything that happen in our country. He told every Belizeans that he could handle the job and we gave him the opportunity to do so by electing him as our leader. This is not about pointing fingers anymore Mr. Prime Minister, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”, It is time and over time for you to do something/anything to stop the senseless blood shed in our country. Stop foucusing on the oil drilling because “we done seh dat we noh want NO offshore drilling inna wi country. Dat da one problem weh you noh haftu worry bout now”. Da wa free dibby dibby consultation from me, please tek it?”. Get back to work and focus on National Security, Law Enforcement, and our Judicial System, thank you!!!!.

  26. Kamikaze says:

John Boy i agree with you…and Alloyson Graham…too…the man has the money..he can do whatever he pleases…don’t know why people criticizing him so hard. i hope he gets well soon

  27. David says:

For Belize to be a “Christian Nation”… the level of injustice that we allow in this country today says otherwise. I applaud the efforts of the few religious leaders who seem to be trying to make a difference but I think it will take a lot more than prayers and chants to get things right in Belize. The few good men that we have left in this country need to get up and lead with action (not just with words and prayers). It is said that “LOVE” is an action word, perhaps the most powerful action word there is but it would not be complete without “HATE”. So, if any of you really love this country, you really need to START HATING with incredible passion the wrong that is now causing us to sink.

For those of you who like to quote the Bible I leave you with this:
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” – Romans 12:9

  28. ceecee says:

In all do respects,no one is wishing anything bad on anyone else and I’m sure Mr Williams is a great guy.We all have a right to choose who we feel bad for and for me that is all the innocent people that were senselessly murdered in Belize in the pass few years. I chose my words carefully and i meant it when i said that if the bullet was necessary then it should ” not ” have made its mark onto Mr Williams but to his evil and ………….. As usual ,its always the innocent that gets hurt instead of the guilty ones. Our destiny have already been mapped out for us and there is no doubt that Mr …….. have his coming. That is not an ” if “‘ but matter of ” when “. People of Belize are tires of the BS and this is just previews of attractions if these politicians don’t stop and shape up. People kids are dying and none of the seem to care.No matter how much rally or protest people are organizing, they still get no respect. The one person that can make a difference, choose to turn a blind eye and i wonder why? This is not about Mr Williams, People are angry and they chose this as an outlet to lash out because he’s one of the closest people to …………. Mr John Saldivar once wrote a beautiful song (message to Guatemala).Hope his next one is ( message to Dean Barrow) cause he doesn’t seem to get it. People aren’t scared of him anymore. They keep edging closer and closer to him and we all know what they say about the 3rd time…might just be the charm.

  29. lovejoy says:

Mr Williams and Mr Barrow are NO saints I think Mr Barrow knows exactly what happened here. My thoughts and prayers go out to any family that experiences this kind of pain. Lets hope Mr Barrow will now get off his high horse and make a move to rid Belize of crime. But thesetwo men are however educated and rich are NOT saints….

  30. lovejoy says:

Any Prime Minister that shouts about hanging his opponent with a noose is a violent man and must have voilence surrounding him. He is NO role model for Belize and especially Belizean youth…we need new leadership!

  31. Real says:

this shooting can be connected to a statement posted some weeks ago if you recall this “MY COUNTRY WILL NOT BE DESTROYED BECAUSE OF OIL EXPLORATION AND DRILLING—OVER MY DEAD BODY….I PREFER TO DIE THAN RATHER SEE GREEDY PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY WANT”

Can there be a connection? if so, that means, barrow is the other Target…as simple as that….lets wait and see….Belizeans are so tired and frustrated that our peaceful cries are going into deaf years; hence, perhaps violence is the only way to show the people power against government and their cronies….

I am not hating, just saying the truth…God Bless my poor people…WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE POWER..

  32. Belize Belize says:

My prayers goes out to the family of Mr. Williams.

This is a wake up for Belize. I question a lot of things when it comes to our political figures. Of course we all pull a blind eye once when we get the charitable contribution from someone. Its the image of robin hood. Except your stealing from the poor and given out charity to the poor to regain your image like a saviour.
Barrow and many other politians included the old PM Musa are all theives. The Barrow and williams firm has done well in belize because of the country as a whole. Belize loop hole is what created the wealthy class.
Its a different form of hustling that is based on creating businesses and hiding things in this fashion. Once the corruption stops the violence will stop. I feel this crime happened because of contracts, politics and “THE BIGGER PAYOFF’.

As stated before, I am deeply sorry for the incident and towards the family as he is a husband and father of 3.

This was hit. Now the reason behind a hit is the big question?
Money? Recent Oil Dealings? Mayoral Scandal? Sweetheart Scandal?

    Why?

  33. OW RESIDENTS says:

Why is it that we show more importance to a person that is on a violent attack because he is rich. Mr. Williams is no better that you and i the commoners or is it because he is the partner of the PM that we should give a …… PM should have done something about crime a long time ago. People who do forget but those who you do onto never.

  34. Ilandgirl Florida says:

In all do respect it is so hard for me to sit down here in the states and read the news about these shootings in my home town. People geting kill for nothing or for there own personial stuff. The primerminester need to band the use of guns, and start hanging the ones that kill. I bet you it will stop. So if you realy love our country and the people that is living now please i beg of you take away the guns, and deal very hard with the killers, the rapest, and the stealers. My home town is not like before, i will be fraying every day for my people of Belize. I love my country.

  35. Lisa Lisa says:

Everybody looking to Barrow to solve your problems. We all have to work together to solve the crime in Belize. What good is law, if ordinary folks don’t step up and put these idiots (kids doing crime) away. Rodwell doesn’t need to be the sacrifical lamb, each and everyone of us Belizeans in and out of Belize need to sacrifice a little to save our country. Come on. I don’t know Barrow, but I know Rodwell Williams, and he has done a lot of good in Belize, with his money and his time. And he doesn’t deserve this. Neither does his family. Belizians have to stand up to the crime in Belize as a people. Don’t be afraid, be brave. Don’t be shy, be bold. Strength is in numbers, not politicians. And there are more good people in Belize, than bad.

    Please please get better Rodwell.

  36. Fed UP says:

I am not saying the shooting is right. But when they killed the brannon brothers no one reached out they were hard working people. It hit close to home now so now we feel it i felt it already n dont tell me about work hard the ghetto youths dont even have a chance to get an education.

  37. concern says:

How could my Belizean people so heartless, A man was shot, near death, and all you can think about is about the treatment that his family is providing for him. Well let’s be real here folks, Mr. Williams has an education , a job and people that cares for and loves him. He is not an attorney because he bought it from off the streets,he earned his degree through staying in school and determination to make something of himself. Can you blame his family for seeking the best help possible for him? I would think not. What my Belizean youths need to do is STAY IN SCHOOL ,so that they may be better able to advance themselves and become more productive. You all need to stop casting blame on the PM for everything, instead, parents need to be more involved in their children’s lives and make sure that by any means necessary give them the love they are desperately seeking for. It really bothers me that my country has come to this, the government should not be held accountable for the way these youths are behaving, parents should!!!!! A home is the first place of learning and children live what they learn. Teach your children right, as tough as things may seems, a hug won’t hurt, a little “I love you” is all the heart needs sometimes. If you think capital punishment is the answer, then my beautiful Jewel will be empty. As I end my posting, please stop casting blames and come up with a solution. Parents love your children and put God foremost in whatever you do. He will direct thy path.Be well. To the family of Rodwell Williams may God continue to strengthen you during this time/

  38. fatima says:

I can’t believe Barrow….even as his good friend fights for his life…He starts talking about himself and how he up to now has stayed out of trouble…is this man all about him or what…narcissist comes to mind for sure

  39. ThAt 15 YeAr OlD says:

why worrying about the attention? after all, he is the PM’s right hand man. the PM is well known in society, Mr. Williams is also a well-known lawyer. this man has the money! he can do what he please! its his! its his life he’s trying to save with HIS money! it doesn’t matter how he spends it. whats the use of having money and not living in class, or spending the way u want to spend? so why don’t you people leave that part of it alone?! and yes, Belize is in a very messed up state just about now, if you notice, at first Albert Street would have people up until about 8:00pm…. but now, that street is empty and bare by the time the sun sets! i wont say to band the use of guns, because its always safer to have something to protect you. but i will say that i think there should be more procedures before getting a gun license.

  40. baby girl says:

u said it Kamikaze …. ppl stop hate ok…the crime in belize is affecting everyone…all we can do is stand together and try get our country back as one safe country…

  41. John Boy/Carson, California says:

Barrow can’t get rid of crime in Belize.Belizeans would have to get rid of crime. The man is not Jesus Christ. Some of you expect miracles. He is only one man.If you want things to change start by changing you.

  42. concern says:

This posting is for ceecee,.You just prove the point I made in my previous post. You sound as illiterate and stupid as these out of control guys. My grandmother always say it’s easier to be quiet and let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and prove them right.Apparently you have a vendetta against the PM. Be careful what you write…it might just comes back and bite you in the *ss.Stop casting blames and try to find a solution. The PM is someone’s child ,husband, father, brother and friend need I go on?. We must not wish bad on anyone regardless of how dismal the situation is. Revenge is God and God alone my dear. You need to pick up the bible and pray, first for yourself and then for those you love. Just switch the shoe and tell me how you would feel if someone had such hatred against you.Only arrogant people talk in such terms. Prove me differently for I know there is a better side to you. Be blessed and let go of the anger, you will feel much lighter.

  43. Crime stopper says:

Sometimes it takes a high profile official to set an example of the criminal situation in the city. I’m sorry a lawyer got shot and he does not deserve it. I hope the PM will take agressive action now in tightening the police force and hire more experienced police officers and criminal investigators. Don’t hire friends, family or people who help put politicians into office. Hire those that are qualified and educated. Bring back the death penalty and keep those serious criminals behind bars for years.

  44. Lany says:

    Damn Right FED UP…

Nobody is bashing the man for going overseas to get medical attention and i am in agreement with him to leave Belize as he may die here with ridiculous hospital they dear to call a HOSPITAL, Cuz at the end of the Day we all end up at KHMH… Now as for Barrow, i am not sure he will get the picture as yet, i think it really needs to hit home and see what he will do. People are fed up with HIM and his FAMILY reaping all the sweets our country have to offer. Government laywer(lois, cuz according to him all other lawyers are corrupted) Anwar- Director at BTL, and his daughter ( following in her mother foot step) then her come SHYNE- Ambassador ( u can’t be serious a convicted felon a role model). Barrow u may think we a stupid but guess what we are waking up and sadly you will feel the blunt of our rage over what u are doing… Please think before u do things. lawddd if we were given the same opportunities that you are giving your family Hell we maybe have been lawyer. Your Family don’t need handouts from you , they are educated they can make it. The little boy down boulevard need to know where his next meal will come from, the little girl down south needs to know where she will get the dollar fi buy an exercise book for class tomorrow. The youth down the street is trying to make his life better but tuition money noh di deh. Barrow u get the drift Education is the key yo success… ask Patrick he benefited from the government (scholarship) thats why he is not in the cemetery. Lawwdddi ope Ministry Of Youths is more effective now,, cuz damn nothing is happening for the youths of this country. Who knows maybe williams shooters was making sure he eats the next day and dat mommy have food on the table or maybe tuition for his sister is being meet. All these things are co relation. A hungry man is an angry… This doesn’t only go for FOOD … Thats life. WAKE THE HELL UP>>>

  45. lrnzG says:

The best idea is to license all the bikes in Belize City.. bikes are continuously used as ‘hit vehicles’ and the authorities have not used their common sense to use this strategy.
People would use more discretion whenever using their bikes to do crimes because it would be evidence.. it could be traced, even if it would be linked to someone who had reported their bike missing, the situation could be investigated. *At least they would have something to work with..

  46. ang says:

I was thinking how in Mexico drug dealers kill off politicians campaigning and also govt officials, they want chaos or perhaps to push their own candidates? Notice if these random attempts become habitual too here in Belize. This is why it is very important for Belizeans to fight to maintain the peace by helping authorities, just my point of view.

  47. Lisa Lisa says:

Fed up, that’s exactly what you are saying. You are saying shooting is right. there are plenty people out there not doing what these guys are doing. They chose to do this and you are giving them a voice of CRAP. We all make choices every day, with whatever our circumstances, whether we are rich or poor. We have to encourage each other to make the right ones. In this life there will always be people better off than we are, that doesn’t make them the enemy. They came up from nothing, just like everyone else can. What in the world are you guys talking about. And who says no o ne reached out for the Brannon brothers. Those reaching out for Rodwell are his family and friends. The same happened for the brannon brothers, just different friends. Let’s keep it real. There guys want easy fast money. They don’t want to go to college for 8 or 10 years or burn the midnight oil like some of us. These guys are not unique, they are in every country, even America. Give me a break.

With those who mention Mr. Williams financial affairs, well, he made a good choice, when he choose to get himself a better future, and get his education when he himself was just a youth.
Seriously, though PM, u need to do something about all these senseless killings going on, it doesn’t matter who it is, young, old, rich , poor, Black, Hispanic, Garifuna etc. our lives are worth much more than u allowing these hoodlums to walk free.
And for that writer, the Bible doesn’t teach eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth… it is mentioned in Matthew 5:38but, Jesus teaches us the right way, and i suggest you read Chap- 5 & 6, because he said: It was said in old times…a eye for an eye,a tooth for a tooth; he said love ur enemies, So that we may be children of our FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN, for the sun still rise on the evil and he sends rain on the just and unjust

While I am sympathetic towards Mr. Williams and his family, I do believe that something drastic has to happen to someone close to “home” for Mr. Barrow and his regime to wake up!! YES, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP CRIME, this is the reason for an election. We the people vote for a group of people to protect, serve, cordinate and organize our country, and thus our lives. I am a Belizean living in the US for a year and a half and I am scared to go back home. I have my mother and brother in Belize both of which have decent jobs and are respectable mombers of society, but honestly, I anticipate the day I get a phone call from someone telling me that my brother was just killed by some senseless person. What the Min. (s) of Defense and Notional Security need to do is round up the BDF and volunteer civilians and launch a suprise attack on each “base” or “gang” or whatever group and confiscate and eliminate weapons, grenades and whatever else to clean up the streets. I keep hearing that the prison is over populated, well GOOD! Dump the criminals in there and have them live in the uncomfortable consitions there if capital punishment is not an option. We hear about human rights, what about the rights of the people that are killed, or hurt and their families? There are people who work extra hard, and can get no where because of other influences within the work force, so I do not want to hear about, “If people were educated they will live a good life in Belize”. There are many students that go abroad and go home with BA and MA degrees and can’t get jobs, what do you say about those people? That there are not trying to live a better life or better themselves? I believe that Belizeans need to unite, take a stand, protest if it takes that, for Mr. Barrow and his crowd to assist the Belizeans that want to take back Belize to how it was 20 years ago!!! I would definately go home if I was guranteed that I would be safe…but I just don’t have the faith anymore.

Well it’s all easy to say this or that,i am hurt to see it took this for our country to realize it need’s a turning point, now even more than ever. There is probably some underlying factor to what happened to mr.williams, yes i must agree he is a hard working man,and deserves the finer things in life any hard working man or woman deserves, and not be the blame for other people that seem’s to be less fortunate, but on the other hand mr.williams was also facilitating the exploitation and possibily the destruction of our country, for personal gain.Maybe some of us can say,it was done for the greater good for our country. Then again this might not be the case.Which still have’nt anything to do with poor people’s plight,i believe anyone that strive for greatness, will achieve greatness or fall somewhere in between. My people let’s not blame our social’s ill’s on the back of hard working belizean’s,but on the up bringing of our family,it all start’s at home.all poor belizean people are no poor by chance, but by choice.Let me say,i am proud of all those hard working belizean women, that tries their best to provide for their families, while all those able body belizean men who choose to hang out on the street corner’s,and rob, rape and sell that poisen to our belizean people,as belizean’s we need to take a second look at crime and punishment,we are the only one’s that can make the change’s for the better good of our country. We must not give into fear and intimidation, that’s where the strenght lye’s in any sucessful gang, dont be afraid to say what u see,for they will also be afraid of being seen doing the things they do.There are some of us that embraces crime as a way of life, then you should be just as guilty as the criminal’s them selves, let all make a change,so we dont have to see our mother’s,brother and sister’s cry,and loose anymore of our strong belizean men,we mignt need one day to help defend our beautiful country, belize.God bless belize.
