Rodwell’s last televised interview
Prime Minister Dean Barrow is in Miami tonight to lend support to his law partner Rodwell Williams who was gravely injured on Monday night outside his law firm. As reported earlier in the newscast the motive for the shooting is still not determined but there is plenty speculation going around. If you recall, there was an incident about a month and a half ago in front of the law firm of Barrow and Williams. It wasn’t referred to as a shooting incident because no shell casing was found. Most experts, however, believed that the velocity of the projectile that went through two windows and the blinds suggested it was a shooting incident. News Five’s Jose Sanchez spoke to Williams on the day of the incident. When the cameras were turned off Williams indicated that there had been random acts of violence on the building before and at the time, Williams felt mischief was the motive. Williams never felt his life was in danger, and sources say that they believe the incidents are unrelated. Here’s Williams in his last televised interview on April fifteenth.
Jose Sanchez, Reporting
A commotion occurred this morning outside the law firm of Barrow and Williams. The office building located near the end of Albert Street, which is only a stone’s throw away from city hot spots for violence. Broken glass from two windows, led to reports that a bullet was shot from the street and shattered the glass and louvers on a window above the ground floor before exiting through the glass window and louvers on another side of the building. Rodwell Williams is the firm’s senior partner.
Rodwell Williams, Law Partner, Barrow and Williams
“I understand that about five minutes to eight this morning some noise was heard and two or three people who were in the office later observed there was a damage, two windows damaged to our office. We don’t know exactly what caused it but given the kind of environment, we thought we would call the police and report having discovered that the windows to the east or to the north were damaged by some projectile, we imagined. We don’t know.”
Jose Sanchez
“Did you find anything on the ground within the office, other than glass?”
Rodwell Williams
“No. no. nothing that I am aware of was found in the office or outside.”
Jose Sanchez
“There is a possibility that it could have been a bullet.”
Rodwell Williams
“Well, I won’t speculate but it is certainly criminal damage and, therefore, we think it is appropriate to report it.”
Jose Sanchez
“Have you ever had any glass windows being vandalized before?”
Rodwell Williams
“We’re downtown Albert Street and we have had incidences with regard to acts of misconduct but we report it when we find the need.”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow has occasionally used his old office at the firm to conduct interviews.
Jose Sanchez
“The main public concern is that the Prime Minister does hold an office here, so was the prime minister here? Was it near his office?”
Rodwell Williams
“The prime minister doesn’t work here; it is a misperception. The prime minister is a partner in this firm. But the prime minister no longer works at this office so he’s really not here, he works in Belmopan. Irrespective of what the public perception may be, no. he wasn’t really anywhere here at all.”
Neither did office employees or construction workers from across the street hear any gunshot. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

This is a bold step by criminals to attack a public figure like that–Its a shift for Belize–Police on Police crime is not new–But attacks on public personnel is a new thing in Belize–The laws are already laid down for the country–it just need to be enforced effectively.
Belize has hit a NEW low. If someone this prominent can be shot, the rest of us should be afraid….. VERY AFRAID.
I PREDICTED THIS ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO,WHEN I SAID UNTIL HIGH OFFICIAL GET PHYSICALLY AFFECTED THEN THE OFFICIALS WILL OPEN THEIR EYES.IT IS SAD THAT IT HAD TO COME TO THIS.
MY SOLUTION THEN AND NOW IS QUIT SPEARING THE ROD AND SPOILING THE CHILD,.HIT THEM WITH THE ROD OF CORRECTION LIKE OUR PARENTS USE TO DO US.LETS GET BACK TO GRASS ROOTS QUIT REWARDING THESE GUYS FOR GOING TO JAIL BECAUSE THEY ALL COME OUT AS IF THE GOT A TROPHY IN JAIL,LIKE IT IS GLAMAROUS TO GO TO JAIL.
Now you see it, and now you don’t. Attornies by nature are ……… The more slime, the better you are at your profession. Let’s look at all angles. Was this crime the work of small time hoods looking to rob someone for a few bucks, or is this something bigger?
Bigger like what? Who did this law firm screw? What Mexican narco figure did they represent that eventually got caught? Is this a fight between law partners, where one attempts to screw the other?
Let’s look at all possible angles. Who knows what may turn up? Let the magic begin.
Dear magician,
Your comment was posted in bad taste. “Attorneys by nature are ……..slime”. Way to generalize. Really and truly, what do you know of human nature? Reading you scenarios is like watching a hollywood film—something terrible happened—oh I think I saw that in a movie once—it must be that. The real world doesn’t work that way. If indeed it turns out that this tragedy was work-related, Rodwell Williams was simply doing his job, like the rest of us, and the only person who qualifies as slime are those that committed the crime. I think you need to reconsider your sensationalistic/alarmist approach.
P.S. I’m not an attorney, nor do I know Rodwell Williams, so there is no bias.
Show some respect.
Naive = having or showing unaffected simplicity; unsophisticated; ingenuous.
To those that “Belize It” that our Belizean attornies are too innocent to be caught up in foul play; I can only say that you are simply naive.
Sit back, watch the news reports as it slowly trickles out, and get ready to be surprised. Rodwell’s shooting goes beyond a petty theft gone awry. Wake up and smell the coffee…. it’s brew time.
