Image Factory gets art Pronto!
A new art exhibit is being launched tonight. It’s called Pronto. Pronto coincides with the celebration of fifteenth anniversary of the Image Factory art gallery. Pronto won’t feature the usual suspects, but the work of budding artists who are still being molded in school. The pieces on display have been created by Saint John’s College Junior College students and according to their teacher, Damian Perdomo; they have studied many popular movements to create original pieces.
Jose Sanchez
“For people who come and look at the exhibit, what is it that you want them to take away?”
Damian Perdomo, Art Teacher, SJC
“Basically, it’s very interesting what the students are doing in their work. You can actually get a snapshot of their intake on the world. So you get to see basically in the minds of different students. This is a culmination of the work of the s students competing their first year of the new revamped art curriculum at SJC, they have covered foundation courses and now they are getting some freedom to explore different styles of painting and drawing.”
Jose Sanchez
“The Images we’re seeing, are they taken from popular culture? Where did they originate?”
Damian Perdomo
“We basically cover the major art movements through history and the students are given demonstrations and examples of work of that era and they are asked to put their own modern twists onto them. Most of what you see here 90 percent is all original stuff.”
Jose Sanchez
“Interpretation of which artists or movements have you covered?”
Damian Perdomo
“We started off with Art Nauvoo, then we moved on to Burr Oak, we did some cubism three, and we fiddled around with dimensional works.”
Jose Sanchez
“Are the pieces on sale?”
Damian Perdomo
“Most are on sale. Some have extreme sentimental value, so those aren’t. But most of the pieces are.”
Jose Sanchez
“The prices range from what?”
“I would say that most of the start around 200 dollars and work their way upward depending on the complexity of the design. Some of them will be painters that are for sure. As u witness, some of them are of some extreme quality. Others are going into graphic design and graphic illustration.”
The exhibit will be launched at seven tonight at the Image Factory. So if you want to see the art and meet the artists, you have to get down to North Front Street, Pronto.

I see one here that I like the best, great to see so many talents in Belize, many other kids will get inspired by these arts, perhaps a few of them can make a living from their work in the future.
I hope that many of these young artists have people in their lives that are great role models.
