Boom and Chime Legend survives heart attack

Mister Wilfred Peters, the Boom and Chime Band and King of Brukdong, was hospitalized on Sunday night. It’s not the first time the seventy-nine year old musical icon has had to take a trip to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Earlier this year, in January, Peters had surgery for an abscess on his leg. In the most recent case over the weekend, Peters was at his home in the North Creek area of Belize City, when he suffered a heart attack. His daughter, Carla Peters Rodriguez, says he is recovering at the K.H.M.H.

Brukdong King, Wilfred Peters, had another devastating blow to his health on Sunday night. His daughter, Carla Peters Rodriguez, said he had trouble breathing so the family had to take him to the K.H.M.H.

“The breathing got worse, so we took him to the hospital, but when he reached deh so, he collapsed. And the doctors worked on him to bring him back.

“So he wasn’t breathing none at all?”

“No, no! Ih heart mi stop! The doctors said ih heart completely stop and they just work pan ahn and bring him back.”

“How long was he gone?”

“A good lee while. I woulda seh musi bout five minutes because they work pan ahn and work pan ahn more and doctors put tube to ahn and soh fi bring ahn back.”

“I know sometimes when people aren’t breathing for a long period of time; they say there is possibility of brain damage. Did they say anything if he is ok?”

“They said no brain damage, but doctors seh we just have to wait and see how he respond to the medication and thing.”

“Is he still sedated?”

Carla Peters Rodriguez

“Yes, they have to sedate ahn, because they seh ih move up too much and when ih move up too much ih pressure go high so they have to sedate ahn so that the pressure keep down.”

“So it was a heart attack?”

Carla Peters Rodriguez

“Mmhm, Heart attack and lungs.”

Peters reached death’s doors but there was more music, more beats to be pumped through his heart. And despite being the king, his family says he doesn’t live like one.

“A lot of people say Mister Peters is the king, but does he live like a king? I mean after all he’s contributed to Belize’s history. Is there something more that should have been done?”

“It’s like weh he always say, big name and small pocket. That dah weh he always seh, that dah fi he main thing—he have big name but small pocket but he still enjoy it.”
