Inspector Dennis Lopez gets bail for attempted murder

Dennis Lopez

Inspector Dennis Lopez, the police officer accused of shooting construction worker, Stephen Buckley on the night of April twenty eighth was today granted bail in the sum of five thousand dollars.  Lopez was denied bail last week on charges of Attempted Murder  and Dangerous Harm, but the Magistrate’s Court cannot grant bail any longer for charges having to do with gun offenses.  Today Lopez, applied for bail in the Supreme Court after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, waived the seven day period for the bail application.  Senior Crown Counsel, Yohhahnseh Cave, did not object to bail and the bail was granted.  Buckley is left now paralyzed on the right side and he hardly has control of his right arm and leg.  Buckley says that help from the police has been slow in coming and he has gotten the services of two attorneys to battle his case with the department.  He was along with his boss and friend, Marlon Myers inside Myers’ vehicle on that fateful night when police ordered them out of the vehicle.  Buckley was shot twice in the head before he could get out of the vehicle and Lopez has always claimed that it was an accident.  Lopez was ordered to return to court on August third.

Anyone who has the where with all to get out of the country of Belize should get to hell out while they have their life. This is the wild west totally out of control with little or no hope of getting better in the forseable future. How can someone pump bullet in the winscreen of a pick up truck and call it a mistake? BULL. And to add insult to ingoury he is granted bail while the victim has to fight the police department for justice. What a darn shame. Nothing but colusion between the court and the police deparment. This is a clear case of why the public has no trust or rispect for the whoile governmental system, nothing but a bunch of jokers heading a so call government.

I can see Representative of governments in our country looking at our so call leaders as a bunch of clowns. (PAYASO in spanish).

  2. maddyvandijk says:

While one man is left paralyzed, and jobless his future was robbed from him by a stupid cop, too retarded for a loaded gun. His defense “It was a mistake”.
“Just say it was a mistake”, and you get to go home in peace.

While he sits and wait in silence for that day In court, I hope the weight of that guilt will choke him to death.

  3. belcap1480 says:

WOW the director of Public Prosecutions WAIVED the 7 day period bail application, SENIOR Crown Counsel did NOT object to bail. HOW SURPRISING but if it had been an ordinary citizen does fools would have found enough grounds to Object but because he is a “Police Officer”, they lacked the necessary mental capacity and will to object. FOOLS. No wonder the people of Bze have little faith in the justice system.

THE DPP,SOLIGEN,JUSTICE SYSTEM,POLICE,GOV’T, ALL ARE CORRUPT.BELIZEANS HAVE LOST FAIT IN ALL OF THEM.

  5. belizean says:

@ Manford: There is no where to run Honey It is the same or worst anywhere else in d world….too much corrupt cops….infact too much corrupt everything even the priests u can’t even take cover @ d church without giving …. in return hahaha!!!!

  6. belam1011 says:

In response to all; the world is corrupt, there is no where to run or hide and change is slow to come. BZ is more noticeable because of the size of the country, but note the same is happening all over. We have to hold and and hold tight…God is watching and if we think we are out of his reach, well, sorry for you when the hurricane, earthquake, tornado hits, cause you may not die so swiftly but be left as a cripple for life without a hand to help out. Being real sounds cruel, but deal with reality, cause this is the world we live in..

  7. MACAL RIVERA says:

why we no just put this man in a pick up and shoot the ……….. from outside ,

so he just wen get bak weh he do the poor man buckley,

If u were to look up the Belizean police in wikipedia it would read: bully, theif, corrupt individual, obnoxious and arrogant . No brawn, no brain, just a body in a suit and nondescript. This is the general ratio of the police force and also the bdf. The motto of these public servants doesn’t read “to serve and protect” so we never be in their best interest as a people. Crime happens everywhere, police and goverment are corrupt everywhere, BUT, this is our country and it suppose to be the paradise. So what the hell is going on………………God is not sleeping people and just as in Haiti, Asia and the mid west, natural disasters are happening each day…….be careful that when you meet your maker, he sends you back as a shell of who you were to live your life out on earth’s hell. Being real is cruel, it’s a B@%^&! BUT REAL IS UPON US!!!!!

  9. Janice Aranda says:

People talking the about corrupt the old world is. Every one is pointing fingures about public loosing faith in the police department yes maybe, maybe not. This man is a man who was doing his job he didnot kill any one,but there are other officers walking the streets of belize who have committed murder and nothing is being done about it, what you all say nothing. So you all need keep your opinions your your beds and wait to see what the out come of this case will be and you all will see that this man is inocent and whatever you all have to say you can’t keep a good, strong man down.

    Lose not Loose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please stop spelling this word incorrectly for the love of English teachers everywhere!!

No matter which party the run the country changes take time i watch pup udp and the counrty still progressing slow. I have been all over the world and trust me there are worst places with bigger problem than belize . All i can hope for is that the changes happen and that the country don’t stay stagnant.

  12. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

one thing ive heard and seen that these things are reaching the melchor people, belizeans. last time i went shopping a guy simple as can be ask me if i need some hitman job. and his really into it and by curiosity i ask him whats the price and he asid at least 500.00 quetzal and we can clean even the ground spills of blood. i told him nah i don’t have enemies. he told me well whenever you have a need let me know and ” we are here for the cash ” . all he ask for was a pic and address and half the amount. we ( my family ) we’re shocked. we went away and sounds like more people has bump into others like him and i believe them because those people accross will do anything for little money and they seem to know what we are going through. it also can be a scam but these type of things happen regulary in guatemala so they a know we are in bad conditions and they are used to revenge.

  13. tim says:

and your point belizean pride?? maybe buckley can go to Melchor and hire this guy? since he can’t get justice maybe that’s the way to go – revenge? maybe u should post your contact info and we can all run to melchor for a hitman… jajaja

  14. Ms C says:

All the stuff I just read its so distaseful, why all you people out there instead of rumbling garbage. It’s best to speak the facts as it is presented ,insted of trying to be attorney,Judge and Jury. Are any of you qualify even to know the facts about the law not just spitting Bull—- Know if he is gulty then let it be done but until you go to court and hear the facts then quit judging.

  15. Merciful says:

If you are the Janice that I know from Hopkins, I think you have it all wrong. Give the devil what he deserves. It’s not because Dennis Lopez a.k.a. O’Neal is living with your aunt for you to be blind to the fact that he was wrong.

If i had the authority, I would have authorized Sergeant Dennis Lopez to take care of Mr. Buckley and his family until they die because of his non sense.

I know if it was an ordinary Belizean, that person wouldn’t be given bail. I mean it’s time for the gov’t to look at this in all angles.

  18. Elgin Martinez says:
