Opposition Leader plans to sue OCEANA Belize’s V.P.
Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, opposition leader John Briceño said he is considering taking legal action against OCEANA in light of allegations made by its local vice president at a public forum held on Tuesday. Audrey-Matura Shepherd suggested that the persons involved in signing the concession rights to Pedegua, a Guatemalan company, should be charged with treason. During a press conference this afternoon Briceño flatly denied any wrongdoing or collusion in the signing of those agreements.
John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition
“In 1998 the then Minister of Science and Technology, the honorable Cayetano, signed an agreement with AB Energy. That was before I got into government. About two or three years later the main principals of AB Energy which is one Brian Richter and also Jerry Keiser decided that they were going to part ways and they broke up into two companies which was US Capital who was going to be led by Brian Richter and Island Oil by Jerry Keiser. So both of them came to the ministry with at that time the late Evadne Wade and the department recommended that we sign two new P.S.A.s: Island Oil that was going to work offshore and U.S. Capital that was going to work onshore. In 2003, I am being told that at that time Jerry Keiser sold his interest of Island Oil to Steve Reilly, another American, and at that time Steve Reilly was already operating in Guatemala and he decided to take his company that he owns and I am told that he still owns ninety-nine percent of that company, to buy over Island Oil. And that is how then how Steve Reilly then when he bought over the company for obvious reasons wanted to sign a new P.S.A., pretty much under the same terms. I am outraged that any person would dare to accuse me of making an act of treason because as a Belizean first and foremost and I’ve been saying it over and over, this is the only country I have and I am prepared to give my life for this country.”
Briceño also said that the agreement was signed with the experts and was transparent.

SUE HER Matura needs to get her facts straight before running her mouth
