96% viewers say tougher measures needed to control gangs
The daylight murder of notorious South side Gang leader, Andre Trapp, sent an alarming message to the general public that criminal elements have become far bolder in their pursuits. In light of this, on Thursday night we asked: Do you think that tougher measures are now required as a matter of renewed urgency to control the gangs? The polls were flooded with votes and a whopping ninety-six percent of the viewers agreed that despite the government’s initiatives—Operation Jaguar and Restore Belize—to curb crime, there is a need for harsher punishment for criminals. One viewer was of the opinion that “crime and murder is an accepted way of life in our city. People feel that it is okay to kill others. Harsher sentences are necessary to effect in our mentality that there will be a tough consequence for crime. Likewise prison life needs to get tougher.” But another viewer said: “tougher measures do NOT guarantee success, it only gives the police the right to stop anyone they deem suspicious and sad to say but the police department is not known for its P.R. towards the general public.”

Yes, I know that because of the blood of Jesus (thank God for His blood), we are now living under a dispensation of Grace as opposed to Law, but I dare say that if we were today to abide by some of those laws originally intended to be carried out among God’s people, and use these as a pattern to govern our societies today—-including that of our beloved country of Belize, there most certainly would be a deterrent to the outrageous and senseless situation and spirit of crime, evil and general malaise that now pervades our homeland. And yes, I said “spirit” of evil, because that is exactly what it is. Christian brothers and sisters, we need to get very serious in prayer and fasting and using the authority that we have been given in Jesus, to command those spirits to leave and return to the Pit from which they came and where they belong.
Deu 19:9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways…
Deu 19:10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance, and [so] blood be upon thee.
Deu 19:11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die…
Deu 19:12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
Deu 19:13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away [the guilt of] innocent blood… that it may go well with thee.
Deu 19:20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
Deu 19:21 And thine eye shall not pity; [but] life [shall go] for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
What’s going on in Belize is a ” mind set ” that is common to the angry fatherless generation…..We are dealing with the same situation in Chicago, and all urban cities, it has become a cancer in our society. Yes, the FATHERLESS GENERATION….. Viewer is right, there is no guarante that tougher measures will bring sucess. Poverty is not the issue either, growing up in Belize the majority of the city were poor, but we had ” home raining ” and morals, today people don’t know what Character or Morals means… Father’s Day is coming up, see if it has the same effect as Mothers Day, I don’t think so….
Whats the point of having tougher measures when the judiciary and the police can’t even get a conviction?
Ridiculous isn’t it? Enforce the current laws, punishments and invest in proper training so you get higher conviction rates.
