Mini-man gets 2 years in prison for unlicensed firearm

ralph sherlock martinez

An entire family was today escorted to the Belize City Magistrate Court on a firearm charge this morning. It follows a shooting on Mayflower Street on June thirteenth which led to a search of the home of Ralph Sherlock Martinez, a.k.a. “Mini-man,” where police discovered a point twenty-two revolver. Police claim that while on patrol on Vernon Street, they heard shots on Sibun Street. There they came across an injured Julian Castillo who claimed he had been shot by “Mini-man.” The injured man was rushed to the K.H.M.H. and police proceeded to the home of “Mini-man” and say they found in his yard, a point twenty-two revolver. At his home at the time of the search, were Mini-man’s common-law-wife, Juanita Uter, his daughter Nshanti Martinez, his fifteen year old son and a friend, Tashey Torres. Mini-man and the four others were all charged with keeping a firearm without a gun license. Mini-man took the rap and the charges were withdrawn from the four others.  In mitigation, Mini-man asked for leniency and Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb-McKenzie imposed the minimum jail term of two years.

Less than 2 years! He’ll be out in just over a year, unless he appeals, and in that case could do less than 6 months. He should have got Dickie Bradley to represent him, as he’d be a free man over a technicality (No search warrant, coffe too cold for him whilst in the cell), and probably lining up for compensation from the Police for infringing his human rights!

So much for clamping down on firearms offenders! 10 years – no parole for an unlicensed and 2 years , again NO parole for each round of ammunition. That might, just might make some of these street thugs think again before strutting around, knowing that if they get caught, they won’t be locked up for long.

They are laughing at us law abiding citizens and residents. Too lazy or stupid to work, they prey on us, and hold anyone up when they are short of cash, because they have a gun. Too cowardly to try and hold someone up with their bare hands, for fear of getting seven colours of crap kicked out of them and they walk where they want, when they want. If they get caught, they stand a 97% chance of walking out of the courts as free men, whilst we are prisoners in our own homes, and aren’t even safe there!

We are truly prisoners in our home, city and country because these hudlums are free to prey on weak and unsupecting citizens. We must let these criminals know that we will stand for this sh.t no more, if you are caught with a unlicense firearm and it is your first offence—-you lose the index finger; if your caught again the it’s your entire hand….he doesn’t use it for nothing but commiting crimes. It’s just a suggestion to try an curve the gun violence in my home country.
