Gary Seawell still facing extradition to U.S
Since his capture in early February, Gary Seawell has been behind bars on eleven charges for firearm offences. But when he was taken to court today under heavy police escort, for his first appearance before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie, it was for another matter. The U.S. government wants his extradition and he was read his rights to either waive or fight the extradition request. Seawell, who was represented by Arthur Saldivar, chose to fight the U.S request. Appearing on behalf of the Solicitor General’s office was Attorney Magali Perdomo. Perdomo did not disclose the charges Seawell faces, until the adjournment date that is set for July seventh. When the formalities concluded, Gary was whisked away in handcuffs in a pick-up truck waiting for him. In early February, Gary, who had been on the run for almost three years, was captured in the Cayo area. He and his wife were slapped with criminal charges after a number of illegal weapons and other items were found in their possession.
Seawell’s brother, Mark, also awaits extradition proceedings so both brothers will appear jointly in court on the same date. Mark has been on remand at the Hattieville prison since February of 2007. Another Seawell brother, Duane, is currently serving a seventeen year sentence in a U.S. prison in the United States for drug trafficking and money laundering.

I don’t condone criminal activity in any shape or form. However i’ve got a problem with our Government extraditing our Belizean Citizens to the US.Numerous US Nationals have comitted heinous crimes in our Jewel and just get a slap on the wrist and put on a First Class Flight to the US.As a result i don’t see why our Belizean Citizens should be extradited to the US to charged. This guy is on Belizean soil and he is a Belizean which means that the Belizean Government has full jurisdiction.Stop have people come to your house and tell you how to run it Mr.Barrow.
The man commit a crime in the U.S , therfore the U.S want him to stand trial. If a criminal commit a crime in Belize and run to the U.S. Belize have a right to request that person extradite to Belize. That is an agreement the U.S and Belize have. This treaty was in place way before Barrow was P.M.
you full a … serious, this man is a criminal in belize and united states. why my tax dollars have to feed him when uncle sam will take care of that for us
i believe he should be kidnapped and taken to the us for the ..t he has done
thanks very much
that family grow up d traffick dope from back in the 80’s dah belmopan. This is their THING.when other criminals flee to Belize people agree that the US authorities should come and get their man.just because he was born in Belize doesn’t make him exempt from the rule.He made his mess in the U.S.A let him face the music.
Belize signed the extradition papers years ago, too late now. What Belize can do now is stop sending the criminals of american home when the commit crimes here, but let them do their time in belize as well.
Gary is a drug lord, he commited his crime in another country and fled the country because he wanted to avoid jail time. It is a lack of respect for the country, and he should not be saved by Belize for his crimes done in America.
I am tired of this case already……..
