Murder suspect rushed to the hospital

A murder suspect was rushed by ambulance to the K.H.M.H. from the Belize City magistrate court. It caused a stir but not to the extent as the commotion last week when Andre Trapp was murdered behind the courts. There was also no foul play involved in today’s incident. Apparently, nineteen year old John Chessman was seen bleeding inside the holding cell. He indicated that he was having pain in his abdomen and was unable to breathe.  And about eleven this morning, a BERT ambulance had to be called to render assistance to Chessman who is on remand for double murder. Chessman remains in stable condition at the K.H.M.H.  Apparently the nineteen year old was responsible for his bleeding. Reports are that earlier in the morning, Chessman was seen biting his tongue, which led to the bleeding. The incident happened after Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer informed Chessman that his trial would commence in the October session of the Supreme Court.

Other than the morning’s excitement, Chessman is accused of murdering Karen Crawford and Maurice Cadle on May twenty-ninth 2008.  On that date it is alleged that Chessman and an accomplice went to look for Emmerson Wade, but found Crawford and Cadle.

This is not the first murder charge against Chessman.  At the tender age of fifteen, he and his older brother, Robert Gillett were both accused of murder in the death of twenty year old Mara Naomi Garcia, a housekeeper of Lord’s Bank in the Belize District.  Chessman beat the murder charge while his brother pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
