Group of men freed of murder charges
Crime is at an all time high but what does it take to get a conviction or even proceed to trial? Well, five men bolted from the Magistrate Court this morning when charges against them were struck out even before a preliminary inquiry got underway. It was no ordinary case, four were facing murder, all five were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and another was to be tried additionally for abetment to commit the murder of Randy Coye in October 2009.
Shortly after eleven o’clock, Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie told the accused men that they were free to go. Brandon Smith, Leon Gray, Kenroy Humes and Deshawn Mena were facing murder charges, and along with Edwin Flowers, they were also charged with conspiracy to commit murder while Flowers was additionally charged with abetment to commit murder.
The charges were struck out when the court prosecutor informed that despite repeated requests the case file had not been provided by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Attorney Dickie Bradley, on behalf of Flowers and Smith, told the court that from the disclosure he has received, there is absolutely no evidence against the two. He found that the statements provided by eyewitnesses to the police, provided no nexus between both men and the crime. The charges were then withdrawn.
The men had been on remand since last October after police found Coye’s badly decomposed body inside a shallow grave at the Lord Ridge Cemetery. Coye was believed to have been murdered on October second, the day he went missing.
Court records show that at least two of the five had previously walked from murder charges. Humes walked from the murder of Gilbert Phillips, and Edwin Flowers walked from a double murder in the execution style killing of Keira Leslie and Dorian Michael who were both found dead at the Haulover Bridge. That case never made it to trial, as one of the accused men had been given immunity and but failed to testify against Flowers. He was set free along with another suspect, Daniel Danderson.

Belize’s judicial system a big joke,so is the DPP,he or she should be fired, what a waste of our tax payer’s money.Does dean barrow need to pay the american’s thousand’s of dollars,to tell him our judicial system does’nt work? What will it take these idiot politician to get our country going in the right direction?
Unbeliveable.Ridiculous.
We need snipers on the roofs to get rid of all this moth………rs (I mean gangsta, the most undeveloped, stupid and dangerous form of human being).
Sorry, I forgot they all are innocent and very good bways….only a bit immature, that’s it….
How can you blame them for that??
Some people were pissed off the other day when that gang leader Trapp was gunned down near the court house, this is the reason why you should all join me in street justice.
look at these idiots free to kill again, won’t be long before they hurt someone else.
perhaps the court system is finally out of options, sending them back on the streets so that their enemies will do the job the system is afraid to do.
Wow i just cant believe what i am reading today , this is mess up , so we all know somebody else is going to get kill again or seriously injures , Its not the last we here of these names because of the DPP.
How much are we paying for the DPP? Why don’t such officials get paid based on results? Talk about white collar criminals!
This just means that more people will die and then those guys will be executed in the streets. Let’s really hope that the latter occurs first.
It’s time for the powers that be invest some of the oil money into the justice system. Belize needs DNA technology – a state of the art forensic lab with well-trained technicians, then the criminal justice system will not rely so heavily on eye witness – there will be no intimidation of witnesses. It’s a damm shame that life doesn’t seem to be worth anything to these young men.

5 more killer’s on the lose again…that’s why I will not be going home anytime soon. Belize is becoming one big circus with court as the clown’s.
SHAME!!!! it won’t be too long before they are back after killing God knows who.
Thai is if somebody no kill them before.
I have no remorse when these men get killed on the streets. I say good for them.
This is my nephew that was founded brutally murderd on Oct 5th 2009 and at this moment the pain I’m feeling is the same pain I feel that day when he was founded. I feel for my sister Randy”s mother she call me last night and she said ” The system murdered once again, my son and every murdered victim that they fail to give justice to. They have set the five men free, YES FREE, FREE TO KILL AGAIN. Please pray for her that she will find comfort in the Lord.
Yet many may ake why i the crime rate sky high.
They will no act until some one of there family is murder or harmed.
BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY FOR THOSE WHO KILL. AND A BETTER JUDICIAL SYSTEM.
I thaught you guys would have learn from the situation with the PM’s Business parthner situation. However it seems that the criminal element in Belize is incharge. At least that’s the message the DPP is sending to the Belizean Citizens.

Belize is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, the land of my birth. I am sorry to say I am a shame to tell anyone that I am from Belize. I will speak only negative things about that country, file for citizenship where I am living and never return there. We all have fail to do our part as Belizeans, mostly the government, the lawmakers of that land. The people that kill one of my family member should be careful not to be a parent, because it is their kids who will pay for what they have done.
The government in Belize need to step a side so the people can elect a a justice system that would use Surah laws (Islamic law) instead of the justice system that can be intimidated. Islamic influence in the justice system would be the best thing for Belize as a democratic nation. We as Belizean foreign and/or domestic need to do something, what ever it will take, before it is too late.
Hang them!!! these same set of boys got off for killing already….where is justic in this country?? RESTORE BELIZE PRIME MINISTER IF YOU ARE SERIOUS HANG THESE CLOWNS!!
