Colin Lord and Raymond Andrews shot after watching NBA game

Several hours after the fatal shooting of nineteen year old Joyce Mitchell gunfire once again erupted on the south side of Belize City.  Shortly after twelve o’clock this morning, twenty-eight year old Colin Lord and a few of his friends were sitting on a verandah at the family residence on Lavender Street celebrating the outcome of the N.B.A. Championship when gunmen unloaded a barrage of bullets on them.  When the shots subsided Lord and another young man, who has since been identified as Raymond Andrews, laid wounded on the ground.  Lord’s sister, who spoke with News Five off camera, said her brother’s shooting may be linked to the Sibun Street shooting.

Voice of: Colin Lord’s Sister

“My brother and my sisters were sitting outside on the veranda, all five of them. Two brothers, my sisters and two of my sisters’ friends and shortly after, well actually my brother was in the house and he came outside and as he sat down on the veranda and opened a stout, was going to drink it, that’s when two gunmen came into the yard and fired about twenty-something shots. One of them caught my brother in the back of his head came out through the front another one caught one of the young man that was here in one of his legs and one grazed my sister.”

“Do you know if your brother or any of the other young men that were here with him had any previous altercation with anybody else who would want to come and exact revenge on them here at the family residence?”

Voice of: Colin Lord’s Sister

“No, not that I know of. My brother is very quiet, to be honest he hasn’t even gotten a charge from police or anything, he hasn’t even gotten locked up before. So I wouldn’t say, and the other guys they are two little boys so I wouldn’t see why. No I nuh think so. I understood that a guy, who was their intended target was in front of my house previous to what happened, maybe five ten minutes before the gun men came. So, I guess that was, that’s what everyone is saying, that was their intended target. And they just came up in here, they didn’t know who. I would say they didn’t see or know who they were trying to get at because they could have killed anyone.”

“What is the prognosis of your brother? You mentioned earlier that he got shot in the head, how is he doing? What are his chances?”

Voice of: Colin Lord’s Sister

“Well, the doctors say its twenty percent chance of living. Of course, we’re not going to give up hope. He’s innocent and I could put my life on that he’s innocent. He’s on life support he came out of a six or seven hour surgery. They removed his bones from his head. The little pieces, I think there’s still fragments of the bullet in his head moving around but you know of course they can’t remove anything because the brain is swollen.”

According to Lord’s sister, the incident may have been a case of mistaken identity as the family later learned that the gunmen were apparently looking for one Edward Lord who was seen standing in front of their residence a few minutes before the shooting.  While the family is yet to find out who shot Colin, they strongly suspect that the two incidents are related.
