Family of murdered teen caught in highway accident

There was a traffic accident on the Western Highway on Saturday afternoon, and it was captured by a News Five crew as it took place.  Reporter Marion Ali and cameraman, Jorge Tabora were at the crime scene on a dirt road at mile six on the Western Highway where the body of Neisa Pipersburgh had just been discovered.   As the forensic team was processing the area, a group of family and friends of the teen gathered at the scene. Two of Neisa’s relatives who were leaving the scene had just walked from the dirt road to a waiting red pickup truck at the junction with the highway.  But after the vehicle swerved onto the highway, it stopped in the middle of the road and that is when the accident happened.    Marion Ali reports.

While getting this shot from the crime scene off the Western Highway, our camera captured the accident as it unfolded.  A bus, belonging to Shaw’s Bus Line, slammed into the rear of the red pickup truck which had stopped in the middle of the highway soon after it exited the same dirt road of the crime scene.

That same shot shown in slow motion captures the bus crashing into the rear of the pickup and one of the men being ejected from the back of the pickup slamming onto the windshield of the bus, before he was flung to the roadside.

This was that man, who was knocked unconscious as he landed on the road.  Here, he is being placed into the pan of this pickup truck to be transported to the hospital. This was where the red pickup veered off the road after the impact of the crash.  Two other injured men had to be helped from the pan of the red pickup truck into other vehicles to be transported for medical attention.

And this close-up shot of the bus shows the extent of the damage when the man in purple was flung against the windshield upon impact.  Passengers travelling to Belize City on the bus, one with facial cuts after the windshield broke, had to get off and wait for other means of help.

This man was barely able to sit up after the impact and he and the others were injured and taken in this other vehicle for medical attention.

Jose Cardoza saw the whole mishap as it unfold right in front of him.

“I was standing right here and then I saw the truck that came out this way and then the truck and the bus was coming a real fast too and then the truck stopped right in the middle of the road. And then the bus couldn’t stop and hit the car and pushed it all the way over there off the road. I noticed that a couple of people got hurt really bad and this truck came out of the dirt road here.”

This shot shows two of the injured men, the one in the white shirt in the middle of the screen and the other in the purple suit on the left walking towards the highway moments before the accident happened.  Marion Ali for News Five.

The two men, George Pipersburgh, who  is Neisa’s uncle, was the man who was knocked unconscious.  He is now conscious while the other man, Kirk Craig, who was walking in the white shirt, is in stable condition.

I see this type of thing every day on the highway but as “near misses”. Drivers have no regard for other drivers and just speed along or stop on the road with no concern for THEIR safety and the persons around them. It’s God’s blessing that Belizean highways don’t have more blood shed as a result of reckless drivers. The Pipersburg family is already grieving and they almost lost more family members as a result of recklessness on both drivers’ parts.
I think of a motor vehicle as a “speeding bullet” and it’s only a matter of time before it hits a mark if the driver is not careful.
