One man detained for questioning in relation to Placencia arsons

One person remains in police custody after a string of fires in Placencia over the weekend. Since the suspect has not yet been criminally charged, his identity is being withheld but police on the peninsula say the fires are being investigated as arsons. Placencia villagers headed out for a night on the town on Saturday but the revelry was interrupted in the wee hours of Sunday morning when they were alerted to flames coming from De’Tatch Restaurant and Bar. A joint effort by residents and fire officials put out the fire but within minutes another restaurant was set ablaze. Sunrise Seafood Restaurant and Bar was the second target and the villagers once again assisted the Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department to contain that fire. But even before that inferno was brought under control, a third restaurant was on fire. The residents and firemen separated to fight the simultaneous fires. Both structures were gutted by the time the flames were out and the culprit was nowhere to be found.
