The other recent murder of thirty-eight year old Elbert Pope, a single parent and father of six, has also sent shockwaves through the cycling community. The veteran cyclist had no known enemies, or at least they were not aware of any danger to his life. At previous workplaces, however, it was believed he was being targeted by would be thieves. Two of Pope’s colleagues, George Abraham and Perry Gibson, confirmed to News Five that one week prior to his death, Pope received a death threat. Pope confided in Gibson about the matter and Gibson said that the threat was over a relationship with a woman. On the other hand, George Abraham also said that Pope’s only vice was his love of women, though that was no reason for his life to be cut tragically short. News Five contacted friends and family who spoke of the loss to his family and the cycling community.

“Well, to be frank, the only person I know he was with was one of his ex brah lee sitting down, the talk, dah somebody weh, he go by the areas weh paat major got deh , by dah canal area every time and talk. They no look for no trouble, they nuh look fu no trouble. Deh sit down deh talk, tek wah lee beer. Last night I nuh tink ih mi drink. Ih neva drunk to dat extent weh people mi di seh. Di man have wah two beer cause dah mi Father’s Day. But di man neva drunk. So, I tink deh tek ih life innocently , deh tek fu he life.”

“Well, that I don’t know. I just wish that justice could be served in this case here because I think they took this guy life, innocently mien. So sad, He’s a single parent. Apparently, he had two kids home, one in primary school and one in high school now. Now, who will look after those kids? Ih very, very sad fu si dat fu deh young bwai.”
A post mortem has been conducted on Pope’s body by Doctor Mario Estradabran. The cause of death has been certified to be trauma shock and severe brain damage due to the gunshot wound to his head.
What i know for sure is that these are indeed the last days. And you don’t have to take my word for it; just log on to the news from the place affectionately known to us old timers as the Jewel and you get the sense. Be that as it may……… I just tyad a hear bout all this heartless cold blooded schtuppidness that is going on back home. What is abundantly clear is that the respect for life, law and order has fallen flat on it’s face in Belize. You mean to tell me, that with a population of around 300,000; the authorities lack the abilities to arrest this seemingly state of anarchy and lawlesness that exist? My suggestion is that all those individuals posing as heads of the crimminal justice system; be it the police the DPP the CIB or who ever; should do the honorable thing and resign. Obviously they dont know what the ………. they are doing!! How else can you explain why the crimminal elements are having these educated fools looking real Duncey. Just move over Mr Man, and give somebody else a chance at cleaning up this MESS.

i agree this is really disturbing. the sad thing about it is, is dat is has become apart of they everyday life dat they cant do nothing about it, it like a no hard feeling is given to the death of people. i noe dat they kill pope innocently, i can put my life on the line and say he was not in no gang. he was once my brother in law, now my nephew is without a dad. whoever is in charge of the force and CIB are as corrupted as the ple who r doin the killin. they r afraid of the people.
