San Pedro residents upset about offshore oil concessions

As we told you, the Coalition to Save our Natural Heritage has been holding consultations on offshore drilling. So far, it has met with the BTIA, the NTUCB, residents of Caye Caulker and on Tuesday night it consulted the residents of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Following the presentation on the repercussions of oil spills, the panelists took questions from locals and expatriates on the island. “There should have been some consultation process where you all would have had a say because I think you have invested a lot in the community. As stakeholders of the environment, which is what you sell as your product, you invest a lot so you should have had a say in that investment, which is now being threatened. The truth is people, they like to say that I’m political but I am telling you, call me political but none of our political parties have done us well. One did it and the other continues.”

that is so DUMB to do…. we are seeing what happen already to the GOLF……. because these man that signing these documents do not like the SEA they would never get in the sea….
The people of Belize should decide on who ,when and how an oil drilling group should be allowed in Belize. So far the oil being taken out of the country has not have any positive effect for the economy of Belize or the people of Belize after several years of drilling. No provisions have been made to have Belize use some of the oil for fuel. Belizeans are still paying too much for fuel and the government gets atleast $3.00 tax off each gallon sold, rediculous!
In light of the mess, in the Gulf of Mexico, does Belize have the resourses to deal with any kind of disaster????? All they can do is get run over and SLIMMED UP!!!!! Dealing with a water is more than enough for this country already. What are you going to clean OIL with??? Used pampers and garbage are the most abundent materials that can be seen to be available, these are very absorbent of course so is Bull Sxxt.

This type of construction is really DESTRUCTION!!! IT DESTROYS TOURISIM HABITAT AND ERODES THE TRUST OF THE PEOPLE!!!!
