Viewers say yes to hanging of convicted murderers

There have been more heinous crimes in the past days and women are now targeted in the crime wave spilling across the country. Last week two nineteen year olds were murdered: Joyce Mitchell and Neisa Pipersburgh. On Tuesday we asked the question: Do think the penalty for murder should be death by hanging? Our e-poll shows that ninety-one percent of our viewers are in agreement that the penalty on those found guilty of murder should be hanging. One viewer said “if death by hanging doesn’t deter the criminal element of Belize then at least we’ll get rid of most of them.”  But while votes for the implementation of the death penalty racked up our polls there is still concern about how much of an impact it will bring to the crime situation in Belize.  Only nine percent who participated said no to death by hanging. Many viewers who posted their comments on our website are also of the opinion that the justice system needs drastic improvement before any other action is taken. To take part in the conversation all you have to do is to send comments to questions@channel5belize.com or texting to SMART at 8686, or log on to our e-poll at www.channel5belize.com

The GOB have to kill some people by hanging them by their necks till they are dead to save the majority of the Belizean people, this is our last option and the GOB knows it.

people should be out on the streets picketing to bring back the “hanging” system.

I agree 50% with death by hanging ; the other 50% are my thoughts based on “false Accusation” meaning majority of time the wrong people are charge for crimes committed…we need to find another solution..a solution that will guarantee..the persons who committed the cime..I have been a part of so many cases and I have seen innocent people taking the wrapp, paying the price for the ones who actually did the crime…

Death by hanging would be a good solution if the Prosecutioners, poice officers and other related crime investigations team would prove that for certain that the person they have charged ” Is the ideal person.” but knowing the way thins are going, the plice officers are just picking up people..honestly..I have no HOPE FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT..IN BELIZE CITY, I know a few of them who hangs and give weapons to criminals..why should I praise them??

    Thank you

I AGREE TO DEATH BY HANGING, WHO IS THERE TO BLAME, THE GOVERNMENT OR THE PEOPLE WHO NO THE MURDERS,AND DONT WANT TO TALK. HONESTLY CLOSE ALL THE GUN STORES SEARCH FOR ILLEGAL FIRE ARMS GIVE THEM MORE TIME IN JAIL, SERVE THEM LESS OF EVERYTHING IN JAIL, PROBABLY THEY LIVING BETTER THAN ANY NORMAL LIVING HUMAN WHO WORKS HARD. THEY KINGS OUT THERE, THEY ALL WELL SERVED BEHIND BARS. MAKE IT HARD FOR THEM, IF NOT HANG THEM CAUSE THEY ALL COWARDS.

  6. BORN THERE says:

If we are to hang the criminal element in Belize, we must be 100% sure that the preson being tried is honestly the colprit of the said crime. The Belizean people must come out and testify as witnesses of the crime’s without fear that they will become targets themselves therefore the justice system must not fail. To me, hanging seem’s the likely solution for this problem that is plaquing our society but we must not get crazy and start to hang people for the simpless of things; a life for a life, repeat offenders that are not embracing the second chance they recieve.
