Security guard and a taxi driver shot in separate incidents
There were no major crimes reported in the city over the weekend as tropical storm Alex breezed through Belize. But there was a mid morning shooting today that has left one man hospitalized in critical condition. It was a quarter to ten when thirty-five year old Ernesto Perez was approached by two gunmen while he sat in a taxi at the corner of Rivero and Fairweather Streets. The assailants blasted several shots at Perez hitting him in the left side of the face and upper back. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains tonight fighting for his life.
Police are also investigating another shooting incident that occurred on Saturday. The victim is Security Guard, Harry Joseph, and he reported to police that he was standing at the corner of Mahogany and Sarstoon Streets when two men on bicycles rode in his direction. One of the men took out a black handgun and fired several shots towards him, one of which found its mark on his left arm. Joseph was also transported to the K.H.M.H. and was admitted in a stable condition.
