National Basketball Team Captain, Milton Palacio, in town
The National Basket Ball Team has one week to prepare before it takes on Trinidad and Tobago and other top notch teams in an international competition. One of the veteran and star players touched down at the Philip Goldson International Airport this afternoon. Former NBA player, Milton Palacio, arrived on American Airlines; he is the captain of national team that is heading for the Centro Basket Tournament in the Dominican Republic. This week, the team will test its mettle against Venezuela’s national team which ranks at twenty- third in the world by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). News Five asked the captain how the team is expected to perform in such a short time.
Jose Sanchez
“Milt, just coming from a championship in Spain, what was it like winning; now coming here?”
Milton Palacio, Captain, National Basketball Team
“It was good. It was tiring, it was tough but it was great. We had to you know, work hard especially against a great team like Barcelona. But now it’s back to work but I’m looking forward to it and looking forward to the challenge.”
Jose Sanchez
“You won silver at the COCABA Championship in Cancun under coach Siroki. What is it going to be like adjusting to a new coach? What’s your opinion on that?”
Milton Palacio
“It’s gonna tough man. You know from last year with Kevin, he knew the guys and he knew the team. But hey, it’s like anything. You know hiring a new coach, you gotta adjust and you gotta adjust on the fly. We only got a couple days to do it so we gotta do it fast.”
Jose Sanchez
‘Speaking about a couple days, you only have about one week to practice. Will that be enough because you have some big teams you’re going up against?”
Milton Palacio
“Yeah it is but we’re just gonna have to pull it together. We still have the core guys from last year and so we still all know each other. But we got a couple of news guys coming in and as the leader and as the captain, I just wanna try to pull these guys together and just let them know how hard we gotta play cause this is not a tournament like last year. It’s gonna be a tough one.”
