National Basketball Team ready to bounce Venezuela then the D.R.
In other news, all players for the Belize National Basketball Team are in the country tonight. The full roster of the team participated in workouts this morning and late this evening. It’s only two days until the team tests its cohesiveness during its first game against a world class team. On Thursday the Belizean team will play against Venezuela’s National Basketball Team which is ranked twenty three in the world. It will be a challenging two days at the City Center but the local boys believe that with crowd support they can overcome any challenge on the road to Santo Domingo.
Jose Sanchez
“How are you looking towards Venezuela this week?”
Alex Carcamo, Player, Belize National Basketball Team
“You know, we’re trying to practice, getting everything together. We’ve had each other for about a day now. This will be our second day. Everybody is looking good. It’s gonna be exciting.”
Jose Sanchez
“You think the team is cohesive enough to pull out some wins out there in the D.R?”
Alex Carcamo,
“Oh yeah, we gonna pull off more than some wins. Our goal is bring home the gold medal. We’re not looking for anything else but the gold.”
Keith Acosta, Player, Belize National Basketball Team
“We’ve been practicing real hard as you notice. We feel very good and we’ll be looking forward to the games.”
Jose Sanchez
“Okay, it’s a very short time with the practice of the whole team, how do you feel about the togetherness, the cohesiveness in moving on to the DR?”
Keith Acosta
“I think it’s a bunch of veteran guys and we have been playing together for quite some time now. It just that we haven’t been together; but everybody kinda know each other so its not that big of a factor. It’s just we have to come out and be ready to play.”
Richard Troyer, Player, Belize National Basketball Team
“I’m just excited to see where we’re at as a team. The cohesiveness I think it’ll come so”
“I injured my left foot. I have a small hairline fracture in my left foot. I injured it during the fourth of fifth workout of the tryout.”
Jose Sanchez
“Now, this is a blow to the team because your performance shows that you’re an asset to the team. Will you be able to recover? When will you be able to take this off your foot?”
Gene Myvette
“I’d like to take it off today; but umm there’s no miracle here. BY the grace of god, I’ll take x-rays Friday and we’ll see where the progress is and then hopefully from there I’ll be able to go on the trip. Possibly suit up if possible but not give as I usually give, just to be there with the team and you know come in if I can and help out in any way”.
Jose Sanchez
“At this point you definitely won’t be there for the games against Venezuela?”
Gene Myvette
“No, I won’t be there for the games. I’ll be there in spirit, be there vocally and cheering on my teammates giving then motivation, everything I can do while I’m in this chair.”
Keenan Jourdan, Player, Belize National Basketball Team
“I feel real confident. I know we got a good team. I know we’re gonna all play out there with confidence. These games are real important, they’re exhibition games. It helps us come together more and have us understand who can do what and where they can do it and we’ll be prepared for next week.”
The team from Venezuela arrives on Thursday morning and will play two games with our national team; one after their arrival on Thursday and the other on Friday night at the Belize City Center.
wish you the best guys and lets think together for the gold also.
