Cayo residents concerned about eroding bridge

There is rising concern in the Cayo District about the condition of the Hawksworth Bridge, which connects the twin towns Santa Elena and San Ignacio. Our newsroom received pictures showing erosion of the metal on the pedestrian section of the bridge. A News Five source says the damage is an accident waiting to happen because the bridge is heavily trafficked daily and the support under the eroded area is frail. Cayo residents have informed the Ministry of Works about the needed repairs, but they claim no work has been done to repair the bridge. Lennox Bradley, Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Works, says that it is only a false alarm and nothing is wrong with the bridge.
