One man shot and another gets chopped in Orange Walk
The violence spread to Orange Walk over the weekend. Two men are hospitalized in the Northern Regional Hospital after a shooting and a chopping incident over the weekend. In the case of the shooting, a housewife claims she was threatened by two men so when they entered her yard, she turned on them with her licensed sixteen gauge shotgun. Meanwhile, in the chopping incident, two men got into an argument that escalated to a physical attack that left one of them with a serious injury to the head. Assistant Superintendent Selvin Tillett, the second in Command at the Orange Walk Police Station gave News Five the details via phone.

“At about four-thirty a.m. acting on police information received, Orange Walk police visited the Northern Regional hospital where Daniel Marchand, twenty-seven years laborer of Orange Walk Town was seen suffering from a large chop wound to the center of his head. Investigation revealed that on the eleventh July, about three-thirty a.m. Marchand was walking on Aurora Street in Orange Walk Town. Apparently he was approached by one Danilo Navarette. An argument ensued and subsequently, he was chopped in the head with a machete.”

“Alright, on Saturday the tenth of July, at seven-thirty-five p.m. Evarista Hamilton, forty-seven years Belizean housewife of Trinidad Village, Orange Walk District reported that on the same date at five-thirty p.m. whilst at her home in the said village, one Silverio Perez, twenty-one years laborer of Trinidad Village and Eufemio Hamilton threatened to kill her and steal her shotgun. They entered her yard and as a result, she fired one shot from her licensed sixteen gauge shotgun which caught Silverio Perez on the left leg. Eufemio Hamilton escaped unhurt.”
Navarette will be charged with Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. Meanwhile police are investigating to decide what charges if any will be brought against Evarista and Perez is hospitalized under police guard pending charges for other offences.

It would be yet another injustice against women in belize if any charges are brought against this woman. She shot a man in self defence for god sake, let that woman go.
