Julio Escalante inches closer to recovery, but what about the altar?

Channel Five’s Reality Wedding groom to be, twenty three-year old Julio Escalante, is showing positive signs of recovery at the K.H.M.H. where he is receiving treatment. Julio was seriously injured and trapped beneath a car last week as he headed to work at the Princess Hotel and Casino. He was injured on the hip, shoulder and jaw and developed complications but while he is making progress, his prognosis remains guarded. Julio’s family and his fiancée, Vanesa Ramos are constantly at his bedside while thousands of Belizeans have been sending get well messages. Today when we checked in, his sister, Christina Cano, was optimistic about his recovery.

“He’s doing very good thank God and thank everyone for their prayers. He’s just in pain, a lot of pain, all night.”

Marion Ali

He couldn’t breathe well on Friday?

Christina Cano

“Yes but he’s doing much better now. Just sometimes when he have problem; he have to put on di oxygen mask.”

Marion Ali

What were the results of the CAT scan that he took on his chest?

Christina Cano

“Umm, I’m not sure. His lungs is a little swell I think; but that is due to the accident.”

Marion Ali

And what are the doctors saying?

Christina Cano

“Well, he’s supposed to be in a hammock to put back his hip in place for ten days.”

Marion Ali

But as far as the injuries, what are they saying?

Christina Cano

“They will work on the jaw, when his breathing becomes much clearer.”

Marion Ali,

And the shoulder?

Christina Cano

“The shoulders, he’s moving them now, only on of them. The bruises I think.”

Marion Ali

And the lungs, he will make a full recovery from it?

Christina Cano

“Yeah, the doctor says the lungs will heal itself.”

Marion Ali

Because Friday when I spoke to his fiancée, she told me that they were concerned that he might have injured the lungs much more severely, he had stopped breathing at one point.

Christina Cano

“God is good, and I think that every prayer that everybody is doing is helping him. His baby went to see him. I think it was Sunday. From then, his neighbor, the guy in the bed right next to him told me his eyes look brighter. He’s more happier.”

And the wedding?

“Ummm, he’s still gonna walk down that aisle”

But the date?

“Might postpone”

Julio and Vanesa’s wedding has been planned for August twenty first.
