The public’s opinion on the Belize City mayor independent status
With the prospects for reconciliation with her Party looking grim for Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers, we asked last Thursday: Do you think an independent mayor can effectively run the city without the support of the U.D.P. central government? On our e-poll many of our viewers took time to cast their votes and post their comments. All be told, it seems that the Mayor has lost the confidence of voters as seventy-one percent of viewers do not believe that she will be able to efficiently fulfill her role as mayor without the support of her former party. One particular viewer texted in to our IMS saying “this is a vindictive and victimizing government, it will be difficult for the mayor to get support in conducting the affairs of the city.” The remaining twenty-nine percent believe that Mayor Moya can succeed as an independent mayor claiming “it is not the party doing the mayor’s job it is the mayor herself.” If you wish to take part in the conversation all you have to do is to send comments to questions@channel5belize.com or texting to SMART at 8686, or log on to our e-poll at www.channel5belize.com.

The mayor had the support of the party and she still couldn’t and isn’t doing her job. The amount of all expense paid trips provided by the belizean tax monies are the reason why the streets and garbage situation are out of control. It is ridiculous to think that she will do any better than she is doing right now which is nothing at all, half the time she is not even in the country. For being the first female mayor she has set a terrible image of what a woman in power should be and I hope she realizes she has failed and not run again for politics.
I believe Zenaida is a strong and resilient woman and she will do just fine! The people put her there as a reason and she just needs to continue remebering the people. she got out support!
Don’t forget that SHE GOT THE LEAST NUMBER OF VOTES for her re-election.
If she would think first and foremost of her responsibilities to the inhabitants of the city, there’s a chance she could recover. However, she must keep politics out of her daily activities and most essentially, keep her “grab” out of the cookie jar.
