Second storm of bullets after Friday’s fatal shootings

The passing of eight year old Marques Mahler on Saturday after being shot multiple times a day earlier is believed to have created utter chaos in the Faber’s Road area shortly after the family received word of his death.  A swarm of police and B.D.F. soldiers descended on the residences of Theodore Mahler and Brian Brown a little after one o’clock that afternoon to quell what seemed to have been a potentially dangerous confrontation.  According to Mahler, he drove to Brown’s house, which is located off Faber’s Road Extension, to inform him that young Marques, who had been hit a total of seven times during a shooting incident on Friday, had passed away at the K.H.M.H.  Mahler said that upon reaching the home he was greeted by gunfire and his vehicle’s windshield was riddled with bullets and other projectiles that were thrown at it.

The face-off prompted Belize City police to respond to the scene. Our cameras captured the explosive situation but police say they do not have any report of it. Brown was apparently inside his yard which is barricaded by an unusually high, barbed wire fence.  Standing on top of it was presumably a relative, who can be seen holding a canister in one hand and Sprite bottle in the other.  Police on the ground drew guns while military personnel stood guard nearby.  B.D.F. soldiers also mounted a nearby roof as a standoff between Brown and law enforcement officers ensued.  Shortly after, Brown was detained and transported to Eastern Division in this maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee escorted by a convoy of patrol vehicles.  News Five understands that Brown has been in police custody since Saturday and up until this afternoon, no charges had been placed against him.  It is known that three other alleged gang members, are in custody for this incident but have also not been charged.
