Eight year old shooting victim loses the fight for his life

marques mahler

Eight year old Marques Mahler, fought bravely for his life following a brazen daylight shooting on Friday afternoon. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery to save him. Despite their attempts Marques passed away on Saturday afternoon, the youngest murder victim of the street violence in the south side. Marques, along with several other people were inside the yard when three gunmen drove up in a blue Ford Escort, exited an opened fire upon them with what residents say appeared to be a high powered rifle.  While the others fled to safety Mahler and forty year old Calvin Graham weren’t as lucky. Graham, who was hit multiple times, fell off his bicycle and died on the spot. Marques, family members say, was hit as many as seven times, but police only report four injuries. The Lewis and Mahler families allege that the death of the little boy was due in part to the hospital’s negligence.  According to Marques’ father, Theodore Mahler, the doctor who attended to him assured them that Marques would have survived the ordeal.  Mahler further stated that the boy’s mother had just left the hospital to go home for a change of clothing when the family was notified of his passing.

It seems that Belize has lost its innocence, its heart and its compassion. The death of this child shows us once again that something needs to be done. What the ***K is teh GOVT doing? The Policemen (most of them) are being bribed and protecting the big wigs, the politicians are afraid to do anything, the people in our communities are scared for the own… what is there to be done? THE DEATH PENALTY should be brought back in. Human rights can kiss my …. once you have injured or killed another, ur rights are forfeited and you have none…. so …. bring back harsher punishments. We’ll only need to make examples out of a few and hte rest will see that the counrty means business.

According to reports, this little boy was killed with a military rifle. Where did the cowardly murderer get that? Nothing in life is lower than a child killer.

Will the police find the killer? Will the case file get lost? Will witnesses refuse to come to court or get “amnesia?” WILL JUSTICE BE DONE FOR THIS LITTLE BOY?

I hope so. All Belize must DEMAND it. Let this murder be the line in the sand, where the good Belizeans say to the criminals and law enforcement alike, “No more. Not this time.”

Every Belizean has a stake in seeing harsh justice done here. If it cannot happen in this case, then Belize cannot count on justice in any case. Then Belize will be lost to the child-killers and other violent criminals.

    so sad…

  4. Robert says:

Do you believe the police will solve this case and that the murderer will go to prison or hang?

Your answer tells all you really need to know about the state of public safety in Belize today.

Maybe it’s time for extreme measures, to take back the country from the precipice. Is it time for “people’s tribunals” to handle these cases that the police can’t, and for “vigilance committees” to carry out just sentences?

    What do you think?

Belize is going to get a wake up call soon, just like Haiti. Sorry to say it like that but its going to happen soon… Why is the HNIC cant find a solution to fix the problems?Y’all dont be surpised if we get a category 5 hurricane this year… 🙁

sad week in belize again, Marques is now in a better place, may he rest in peace.

The child was shot so many times without any serious results, and the doctor gave his word that the child would survived the demise then died only a few hours later, mmmmmmmmmmm.

could it be a miss communication by the DR, or a misunderstanding from the parents, lets have a talk with doctor death.

  7. Lori says:

What is the police doing ¿ investigating? POLICE men and women get off our high chairs and go other there and do your investigation instead of the citizen of Belizer Calling to give you info . You the policemen go and find the info . This stupid killing must stop . The gunman has no heart for killing , so we should have no heart to give him the penalty death.

  8. Elgin Martinez says:

The Policemen are not the only problem. The problem starts with the PM of Belize because at the end of the day these cops are only taking orders from their superiors.Mr Barrow need to make some amendments to the laws of Belize.Until then nothing is going to change.

  9. Louisville Ky says:

The silence from our various leaders on this cold act is SO deafening…………
Our society as we know it, has hit an all time low when cold blooded killers have absolutely no qualms pointing a high powered automatic weapon and squeezing the trigger with a mere babe in its crosshairs. Oh boy !!………….

  10. Elgin Martinez says:

It’s ashame how the PM made provisions to meet with these so call gang leaders but have never addressed the nation in regards to the crime wave.

  11. A SMALL SUGGESTION TO GBTV says:

The Ministers and the other Powers that be, may not even see these comments or suggestions from Belizeans all over the world, and people who love Belize and want better for this country. What a shame, as there are so many interesting ideas and opinions presented here.

I would like to make a little suggestion to GBTV, to PLEASE air some of these comments at the bottom of the TV screen during the 6:30 newscast like they do on “Rick’s List” on CNN. It’s just an idea. We know for a fact that NOT A SINGLE MINISTER WILL MISS THE 6:30 news, but they often pretend to be too busy to read blogs, or comments on the web.

  12. rod says:

very very sad well mr pm the life of this little boy is on your head ,because eightrt you are with the criminals or you are a sad excuse for a leader , people of belize i tell you march march on this pm to his house.

  13. ronzy says:

Another senseless murder. All these people of interest, gang afilliations and drug dealers should be searched more often for weapons e.t.c. especially if they dont have a registered job and just hang out all day getting money. Cars should not have tinted front windows or windshields. Thats how the drivers and possibly the shooter/s are concealed. Enforce this and we’ll have less braisin shooting also investments in cameras in certain areas would help. Government needs to spend the money its for the tax payers we deserve it.

  14. Police Chief of.... says:

Mr Prime Minister, sad to know the tragedy in your country is at this level.Compol,it is sad to know the layout of your policemen/women on the streets.Asst.Compol what can i say? Have you not travelled abroad, seen the blueprints of how to create a better police force and this is what you do sit in your office and give out speeches.Let me refresh your minds on how my police force is runned. On Saturday July 10th 2010 the crime rate on my zone fell 4% and the reason is because the police were placed at high crime areas not at hotel and resorts where little crime occurs. Our response was so critical that whomever looked like a criminal was stopped interogated no if buts or maybes about it. SO TELL ME HIGH RANKING OFFICERS OF THE LAW,ARE YOU GONNA PUT A STOP TO THIS MADNESS IN YOUR CITY OR IS THE MADNESS ALREADY HAS A STOP ON YOU?
