However, ComPol says department still has rogue cops
The allegation about rogue cops in the police department resonated throughout the country and can’t be easily forgotten. Since Detective Corporal Jermaine Mangar can no longer be seen as the poster boy for rogue cops, then where are the rogue cops? This afternoon while at a police department ceremony, News Five’s Jose Sanchez asked the Minister of Police Doug Singh and the ComPol about the Mangar case and the rogue cops.
Doug Singh, Minister of Police
“There is some difficulty with that charge because one of the individuals involved has actually refused to give testimony against Mr. Mangar and so the opportunity or the chances to actually convict Mr. Mangar on that particular charge is reduced. In an effort not to clog the system, the Prosecution Department felt it necessary to withdraw that particular charge but it had to do with non cooperation from a witness.”
Jose Sanchez
“The press conference regarding the rogue cops; Jermaine Mangar was the only person charged and now we see today that at least one charged has been dropped. Do you still think there are rogue cops in the department?”
Crispin Jeffries, Commissioner of Police
“Yes. There are rogue cops in the police department and yes there are persons who continue to do things that will make every impact on undermining the effort and the changes that we are trying to bring about. The Police Department took a year before it could have effected promotions and transfers. Some of those transfers are still being delayed because of not only rogue cops but police officers who have friends in high places to say the least. That will continue to happen and that will continue to delay the processes. We’re in the process of looking at that to see how soon we can get—in fact first July was a targeted date for a number of transfers for junior and senior officers. We put that back for some to the first of August and that too may be delayed. That is where we are with rogue cops. So the rogue cop in terms of situation related to the Jermaine Mangar incident with the attempted robbery, that is a situation that will always be around. We have the ongoing complaints made by persons out there accusing police officers including Corporal Usher and PC Griffith and those complaints cannot be substantiated with any evidence. However, where Usher is concerned, that disciplinary tribunal is ongoing. The police prosecution has closed their case, it is now for Corporal Usher to put up his defense and finish with that case. As far as PC Griffith is concerned, a recent incident occurred in Toledo. Mr. Mariano has almost through investigating.”
There is more from the COMPOL and the Minister later in the newscast.

Will we ever see “The Broaster Report”????
Mr Singh sounds like a smart man I hear no excuses and no attempt to cover up for the police department, could this man be Belize great brown hope in the end?
There is just one thing this is still bothering me here though, transfering of bad cops to another district or town. Rogue cops will always be rogue cops, you have to sacrifice a few to save the majority, don’t send them to other towns nor districts get rid of the animals.
I personally agree with Maddyvandijk to a certain degree. Mr. Sanchez did not ask the Commissioner about Corporal Usher or PC Griffith. As a Law Enforcement Officer, High Ranking as that, he opens his suck and put both feet in there. It sound to me from his very suck, that the very same people that appointed him as Commisioner is also failing him with regards to his decision making in transfers and promitions. Well, what goes around comes around my friend and either way you put it, it’s not fair to the people that are honorably serving our country.
Mr. Commisioner, if you or your high ranking officers have reasonable doubt to believe that an individual in your department is an embarassment to your department or our country, you should have the legal right to implement disciplinary action against him/her after proper investigation even if that mean termination to avoid this nonsensical circus. The next thing is, why would you want to contaminate every Town/District with your garbage?. We in Dangriga and Toledo does not need the bull-s–t, we have been holding our own since Colonialism weathering Political abuse and abandonment. If you cannot get rid of the “Rogue Cops” wherever they are, please keep them there or transfer them under your nose in Belmopan. Word of advice Mr. Commissioner, “Watch you mouth before somebody end up di sue you”. Call name only when it’s right for you to do so and when asked.
Perhaps corporal Mangar should be elevated?Promoted, he probably would be a better compol than Jeffries. He sounds very inteligent in his comments/interview with the press.
