Tonight, Lavern Longsworth, the well-known court figure, who runs errands for employees of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court is in lock down pending a charge of Attempted Murder while her common-law-husband, David White is hospitalized. So what happened? Longsworth allegedly threw kerosene on White and then set him on fire during a dispute at their home on Castle Street. White, who was only partly dressed, ran out of the house, still covered in flames. Longsworth pursued him and extinguished the fire, but White had already been scorched and had to be rushed to the K.H.M.H. The fire also damaged the interior of the couple’s home. Reports are that the argument was over money that had gone missing from Longsworth. There are, however, reports that the relationship between them was troubled. Longsworth who is thirty-six years old is a mother of two sons and a daughter. And while he is the victim in this case, White has had a history of robbery charges before the court.

It took a lot of testosterone to not get the hell out of her way after she threw the kerosene, waiting around for her to light the match hopefully burnt some sense into him.

Unhealthy relationships usually come to aweful endings such as this one, glad lavern was not the victim.

Sad situation but, Lavern been going thru hell as far as I can remember. Sometimes people gets tired of these lame … man that is depending on women with kids to take care of them. As for Mr. Garnaches, the reason for the escalation of street crime, domestic violence, etc, is much more complicated than “Lavern bun ih man”. If you notice this type of crime occurs mostly at the bottom of the socio-economic class, po peeple. Di peeple da di battam di kill each other for resources, fi eat, fi feed dem pickni. lavern longsworth is my sister and she is not a bad person a lot of people take advantage of lavern and some people run her down some people beat her and some people treat her badly yes she needed guidance as over mother die when she was very young . we all love lavern and have told her several time to leave David white he beats her and through her over a fence and he stole her money beat her and she still stay with even when he is in and out of jail she is going to the hattieville prison taking food for him .this would not have happen if she have left him the first time he beats her like she is his child no man have a right to beat a woman .a lot of women are living in a violent home with children living in home see these things happening . all woman should not tolerate any kind of domestic violence

sometimes you have to build up the courage to confront your abusers…….men in belize have been taking adventage of women in belize for too long. The laws is design as suck that most of the time they get away with it . While voilence is never the soultion Lavern is my sister and i now her story personally. Hopefully this will begin a serious conversation about gender equality in belize because most men are the ones with an income and women have to stay home and take care of the kids and scared to tell people about abuse verbally and physically… All abuse in not physical…mental abuse can sometimes leaves longer effects than a slap in the head….My hope is that the court will listen to all the argument and set this matter the right way…In belize justice is only given to those who can afford high price lawyer and not to innocent or people defending themselves…
Asking a woman to go to the Police or get a restraining order does not necessarily protect her. We have to raise our sons to grow up to be men, be responsible for their families. We cannot beat our kids, we should not beat our spouse. If you have to beat someone into submission, maybe it’s time to part with the god complex or expect them to revolt.

Let’s put things into prespective here and stop the messing about. How about an intelligent approach for a change insted of all the morons writing nonsese here. Crime is such a serious issue in Belize. Sadly Belize has now become a lawless country almost on the same level as Haiti or other lawless African country. No one is safe not even an abused woman like Lavern or an 8 year old innocent child . This is such a sad state of affairs. On a recent trip back to Belize, even walking on the streets during the day time I was fearful for my safety. Whether rightly or wrongly Lavern probably felt as though she had no recourse but to set this jerk on fire. Looking to the courts or the Poilce for justice in Belize is futile. The only ones who has confidence in the Belize judicial system are the criminals and their heartless lawyers who gets paid to unleash the criminals back into the Belizean society. If every concerned Belizean would challenge the authorities in Belize to provide a better enviornment for their people to live that would be a start. People get the government they deserve. Oftentimes, people just accept the way thing are, but the people of Belize should not accept the situation in which they live anymore. Recently someone was heavily sanctionedl for stealing cement blocks. Paradoxically, the next day someone walked free of a murder charge because no one wanted to testify. Hey Belize prosecutors, ever heard of circumstancial evidence or forensics.. Duh. Go Figure. People in Belize should not put up with this nonsens anymore. Lavern’s action is emblamatic of a country ran amok. We are all Lavern in a sense being battered by the government of Belize. Good for her for fighting back because justice is rare in Belize. It’s time for the decent Belizeans to take their country back from the lawlessness.
On a personal note, I also know Lavern, her deceased mother Louise, Jim her father, Alma John, Muriel , Daniel and Wilhelm. One of you should take the initative and start a legal defense fund for your sister. She is a victim as much as she is the culprit in this matter. Delvorine and Betty, you guys should also chip in from a far. You sister needs you, and since Belize does not have a justice system, she will languish in jail. Why not save that jail space she is now occupying for the crooked politicans and police in Belize.
Funny… But when you visit the Belize Museum…….. They tell you about the woman that was hanged for burning-up her man. The trap door…… along with the deed, is now part of our Official History!!!
Have any of you ever heard of Norah Parham? She was the first woman in Belize to ever ge tthe death penalty. There was controversy surrounding the nature of her sanity but maybe it was just temporary. She killed her husband. Burnt him in a outhouse if I remember right (the story as told by my mom). Her husband was a policeman and as such the punishment fro the crime had to “fit”. She was hung even though she pregnant!
I am not saying that what Lavern did was right but I always promise my spouse that we dont have to get to that point because if we end up in a fight, it will be a challenge and I cannot say that he wont beat me. I do promise that it will only be one time though.

Both are the same story posted byy different agencies. Apparently Nora was repeatedly abused as was Lavern. It appears at the time of the incident he ws beating her and he might have even set fire to himself. Theydid state that she had five children but no reports of her being pregnant in the official reports, though the old girls I spoke with say that she was rumored to be pregnant at the time.
