Ryan is the fifth Felix brother targeted in shootings
Ryan Bennett is the fifth of the Felix brothers to have been shot in the area of Port Loyola. Of the five brothers Tyrone and Faron have fell victim to gun violence. On April sixth of 2009, an older brother, Terry Felix and Edward Thompson were also shot while standing in front of Excelsior High school.
Terry Felix, Gunshot Victim
“I was on Faber’s Road in front of the Chiney man across from Excelsior when a gunman just stopped and open fire on me and like three more person. But only me and another person got shot. I got shot in my hip, the next person got shot in his foot.”
Jose Sanchez
“People have to ask the question because you’ve had two brothers who passed away from gun violence. Your mother has been against it. Do you think you’re being targeted or was this just wrong place at the wrong time?”
Terry Felix
“I think I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The person that came, the person that they hold, I saw him several times riding round on different days and time and he never approached me with nothing like that. I don’t have anything with him. So I think I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Therese Felix, who started an organization called Mothers Organized for Peace following the murder of her son on Mother’s Day 2006, became an activist in the Port Loyola community until her death on October fourth 2008. Felix was one of the founders of Mothers Organized for Peace, a grass roots organization, engaged in the fight to end violence which has evolved into another group known as Belizeans for Justice.
There are two other Felix brothers who have been accused of being on the other side of a handgun. Emory and Maurice Felix were accused of the April 2006 murder of Mitchum Heredia, a mechanic. They were initially found guilty and sentenced to life in October of 2007. Maurice also received an additional fifteen years for attempted murder of another man who was shot during the same incident. However, in June of 2008, the Supreme Court quashed the original judgment and ordered a retrial. Emory and Maurice are still incarcerated at the prison.
Sharing the same last name does not automatically establish kinship. Emory & Maurice are not Therese’ children & contrary to Chanel 7’s assumption, Curlin was not her nephew even though they live in the area.
No one is murdered for singing too loud in the church choir. Obviously changes need to be made since moving is not an option. If this were a baseball game whomever is shooting them is batting close to five hundred, two down, the other three with more one or more bullet holes in their bodies.
No one accidentally points a loaded gun at another person & pulls the trigger. The bloodshed cannot stop when the victims & the perps insist on protecting each other in the name of revenge. No baddy du nuttin.
