Another Felix brother gunned down

The entire country was plunged into darkness Thursday night shortly after six-thirty.  About an hour and a half after power was restored two gunmen wasted no time in seeking out another of the remaining three Felix brothers. Twenty-five year old Ryan Bennett, also known as Ryan Felix, lays in stable condition tonight at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following a near fatal shooting incident a stone’s throw away from the family home on Gill Street.  Bennett, who is the son of late community activist Therese Felix, was the victim of a drive-by shooting in the Port Loyola area.  Bennett was standing on Fabers Road near a Chinese shop in front of Excelsior High school when two assailants drove up to him on motorcycle and let loose a barrage of bullets in his direction.  According to one relative Cash, as Bennett is popularly known, would have been dead had he not fell into a nearby drain during the shooting.

When are we going to stop describing murder & attempted murder with the same passion we use when ordering fried chicken.

Of course they know what happened, when & where but no one ever knows who or why. It’s time for these kids to take off the Tshirts honoring fallen soldiers at funerals & parents need to demand that we keep funerals sacred & bury their children with the dignity they deserve instead of the gang rituals that their peers now use to honor them. Death is final.

I applaud the organizers and members of the Belizeans for Justice Organization. I am a Belizean living in the United States and I love my country. I remember when I was proud to say I am from Belize when asked that question. Reading the Belize news to me is sad because it is simply the daily statistics on deaths caused by killings in this small nation. Our leaders need to seriosly look at this problem and address it vigilantly. Our Tourism Industry will be greatly affected if something is not done soon. The legal system is failing horribly. Too much corruption in the higher ranks of Government Officials. I love comming home, but recently I fear going home especially Belize City.

Hans, Lavern did not shoot a stranger in the streets, she was being abused & probably had nowhere to go. If that was what it took to make him stop, I still say GO GIRL. How many of these gang members with no conscience were “raised” in a home with abusive men. I will repeat a quote I heard years ago that every man should live by: “The greatest gift a man can give his children is to love their mother”. The confidence & ability to love it instills in his children makes better human beings.

I will never accept that murder is the only solution for every slight..

Watching young men walk in a funeral procession drinking alcohol, sitting on a grave smoking weed during the graveside service & the ritual of throwing handfuls of ashes on the grave turned into tossing weed & sweaty bandannas is sickening. Being told by the older folks that this is “normal, dah soh dey lee bwai behave” & to say nothing or risk being beaten or shot is ridiculous. Young men posing in gang attire flashing gang signs is not bonding. Soldiers fight for what they believe is the greater good, these kids are just terrorizing our streets, they’re not martyrs.
    Double standard? Absolutely!!!

Are you seriously transcribing his conversation in broken english? It’s understandable if he speaks in ebonics, but you just made up a language and published it in an article. That’s SO unprofessional
