Women busted with cannabis used for medicinal purposes
A family of Belize City women including a seventy-year old grandmother today appeared before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers to answer charges of drug trafficking.
Seventy-year old Gene Cadle, her daughter, forty-seven year old Francisca Flores, and Flores’ daughter twenty-four year old Carol Lopez; all residents of Peter Ashtown Street in the Belama Phase Two area, along with two friends were busted on Saturday for possession of a hundred and thirty grams of cannabis. The women were jointly arraigned and during the mitigation plea Lopez, accepted responsibility for possession of the drug claiming she uses it for medicinal purpose since she is asthmatic. Following the plea for leniency Magistrate Flowers imposed a non-custodial sentence and fined Lopez two thousand dollars to be paid by September thirtieth. Charges against the remaining four women were subsequently withdrawn; however, Rosa Roches, who goes by the alias Elizabeth Godoy, is expected to return to court tomorrow to face a charge of committing a mischievous act.
If she uses cannabis for health reason she should have the doctors evidence on paper.
if she did handed over proof of remedy then she should not be charged, perhaps not, the reason why she was charged.
