Two Sunday night murders; “Nose” Lauriano gunned down on highway
The bloodbath continued over the weekend; two men were murdered within hours of each other on Sunday and a third who was shot a month ago died past midnight on Friday. On Sunday evening, the life of Giovanni Lauriano, aka Nose, a well known street figure ended in a most tragic way; he was gunned down execution style off the Western Highway as he headed to his Hattieville home. The vehicle he was traveling in was found with several bullet holes and Nose’s bullet riddled body was found several hundred yards away. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has been following this story since Sunday and has a report.
Isani Cayetano, reporting
The end to the life story of thirty-three year old Giovanni Lauriano unfolded on Sunday evening along the Western Highway as he was driving home from an afternoon of socializing with friends in Belize City. It is unclear whether or not the notorious street figure was ambushed by his attackers or if he was being tailed by another vehicle as he was traveling westward near a dirt road that leads off the highway. What is certain is that the gunmen who alighted their vehicle in pursuit of him spared no mercy.
Isani Cayetano
“The body of Giovanni Lauriano, Nose, as he was popularly known, was discovered some several hundred feet off the Western Highway. Lauriano was heading home to Hattieville when upon reaching near mile sixteen and a half he noticed that he was being followed by another vehicle. A single shot was fired and his vehicle careened off the highway. He then exited the vehicle and took off on foot. His attackers then pursued him and several other shots were fired.”
Lauriano was no stranger to the law. In fact his most recent brush dates back to January twenty-sixth when he was charged with customs offences for allegedly importing a firearm. A formal investigation into the murder has been launched but what police saw when they responded to the scene was his bullet riddled body. His assailants had taken him out execution style.
Margaret Cassanova, Sister of Murder Victim
“We know ih mi deh back and forth with the police yes, you know, but ih dah mi wah good bredda to wi and ih use to always dih deh fi we eena everything you know. When ih family deh sick or anything he always di deh fi assist we. Ih neva left we lone, you know, ih da mi a very mannerly person.”
But while his sibling remembers him as a kind and loving brother Lauriano, in his short lifetime, had amassed a string of criminal charges for activities ranging from burglary to weapons possession and even attempted murder. The news of his death came several hours after his mother, Rosalie Haylock-Lauriano, had received word of her father’s passing.
Rosalie Haylock-Lauriano, Mother of Murder Victim
“I got a phone call from a friend. He asked me “is it true that Giovanni died?” Ah say no. Ah say let me do a call. My nephew did a call and that’s the way we found out.”
Isani Cayetano
“When you got to the scene of this incident [uhm] the body was several hundred feet into the bushes. What was your immediate reaction as a parent learning of this tragedy?”
Rosalie Haylock-Lauriano
“Well first of all I must have sounded like a crazy woman but I prayed. I shouted for God to give me peace and comfort and strength and em, I wanted to see him but I was told that I had to go to the hospital. Mr. Jeffries was quite accommodating, quite understanding and em we followed and we went to the hospital and he allowed me to see the body and he also give me my son’s wedding ring in my hands.”
Lauriano had only gotten married about a year ago and had relocated to Hattieville with his wife and stepdaughter to start a life with his family. His body, police say, had what appeared to be several bullet holes to the head and one to his left side of his chest. On the ground next to him was one live nine millimeter round. His vehicle which was later towed out of the marsh it had run into was perforated on both sides. His longtime friend, who spoke with News Five under the condition of anonymity, attested that Nose was no angel.
Voice of: Friend of Giovanni Lauriano
“I will not stand here and say he was a saint because society has put him on the front page that he was not a saint. But he was a person who stand up for what he believed in. He was a person defensive when it comes to if you were trying to take advantage of him. That’s the type of person he is.”
Despite his criminal lifestyle his mother says he was brought up in a respectable home. The two, she said, shared a close relationship with each other and that he would often give advice and support her.
Rosalie Haylock-Lauriano
“He always stood by my side through thick and thin. I wasn’t there for him many times when he use to get into trouble when I know he was wrong but when I know he was right I supported him hundred percent.”
His old stomping ground, Brick City Barbershop on Mahogany Street, was today closed for business and word of his demise came as no surprise to his friends.
Voice of: Friend of Giovanni Lauriano
“The sudden death does not surprise, does not surprise us you know, because he was an individual who talked a lot about if he died this is what he want to do or not do you know. So it was not a surprise but it was a sudden shock the way it occurred, you know, to the whole, to his friends and family you know. Society has claimed Giovanni to be a notorious individual but if you know Giovanni up close and personally he does not seems to be that type of person.”
That person, nonetheless, may have made enemies along the way and those men exacted ruthlessly the price of his past in blood. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.

It’s sad……… but …. LIVE BY THE GUN………. DIE BY THE GUN. I hope that the young gangsters see this and turn their lives around.
5:30 in the afternoon & no one sees or hears a thing but everyone is standing around watching the procession as they body passes by. Bless his mother & his sister’s hearts, the boy knew the good book & was just misunderstood.
As long as families look the other way when their children are living beyond their means or providing assistance with ill gotten gains, they bear some of the responsibility for their demise. When are we going to hear someone stand up & say ” You know I went through 36 hours of labor, the boy’s head was as big as a watermelon, I could not walk for a month, I worked my … off to send the boy to school, wore my dry ponytail instead of getting a perm. My arm still hurts from carrying dinner to him & his friends in jail & my heels are cracked & dirty from the trip & I messed up my Sunday shoes. I have spent the last ten years afraid to sit near a window or open my door because of his lifestyle. He didn’t deserve to die this way but if his death can bring about a dialogue for peace & stop the bloodshed, I apologize to everyone whom my child hurt & tonight I can sleep knowing that I will not get a call from jail or the morgue”.
The previous generation had a saying “No swear fi pickny, dey wah shame yo, mek yo hold yo head one day & bawl”. How many more times are we going to hold our heads & bawl before we all start paddling in the same direction?.
Black men keep killing each other in Belize, the question is no longer “why”, that’s overrated, really.
Although i believe this man was good to his family and friends we who do not know him except for his bad deeds and we must not forget that the higest appreciation of people today is not in the words they utter, but to live by them.
he made his choice.
I pray for his family that they may find peace and strength to get through this. Especially his wife and mother. Please stop these senseless killings.
For those people who don’t know Jiovanni he was a notorious street figure. For those of us who knew him, HE WAS A TRUE FRIEND, A SINCERE HUMAN BEING. Nothing could replace the emptiness left by his murder but in God we trust. There is a saying “circumstances made me who I am”. It’s a shame that Jovs, like many of our black men, had to fall victim to the society they lived in and now we the family and friends are left to pick up the pieces and move on. RIP Jiovanni Louriano. Gone but certainly not forgotten.
The bad part of all this is that this is gonna be another murder left unsolved why ? why does it always have to come to that when it comes to Belizean. The only way the prime minster and the government is gonna do something about all this is when an AMERICAN get kill in belize the way how our belizean kids are getting kill then its sad to say then and only then will something happen. They need to stop giving these men trails a d just find them gulity and let their a……..s rut in jail or better yet bring back hanging on some real…nesss
you live by the gun you die by the gun… Deepest sympaty to the Family of this guy but what about the people he hurt while he was alive. He choose this path he made his choice he could have been anything he wanted to be. Many of our young black brothers grow up in the same society as this young man and made the right choice. I feel for the family because death hurts but on the other hand he deserved what he got and there is one less “Street figure out”
It is funny how all those old sayings us Belizeans were brought up with are so True!
Whey u sow da whey u reap! Whey sweet u whey sour u! Every day bucket go da wel wha day d bottom gwe drop out! ……..In life, as in physics and the universe……to every action there is a reaction ! The path you take will determine your life….you live by violence and criminality….it will come back at you….IT IS QUITE SIMPLE……..CHOOSE LIFE!
This is a free country in most respects, you can choose to be a criminal or hard working, law abiding citizen. Mr. Lauriano chose to be a criminal. “The wages of sin is death”
When someone lives by the sword, he dies by the sword.
Are we ready for the ….. Revenge Killing that will take place???? WHO will get “Whacked”???
sad to say but he has done so much …he robbed two honest workers from Atlatic Bank and he also was responsible for many other wrong doings …sorry Bro but when u do bad it will come back to haunt u
The way you live, is the way you go. Live right from the start and you will not run in to enimies and troubles as time goes on. WITH RESPECT TO THE FAMILY.
I knew he seemed familiar…he is the same dude that shot two atlantic bank employees by the airport… Thank God he is dead, he can no longer shoot anyone.
Belizeans all i can say mek sure ur life is right. When God ready to bring vengance of us we have no excuse. The inocent blood is crying out and God said that He will not led a deaf ear to the cry of orphans and widows.
You know what i can not understand………mothers and fathers come on TV proclaiming that they will be consoled by God in the time of grief and some even proclaim that their “sons” read the bible. If these are God fearing people then how come their children don’t fear God? How come we no teach these young boys what God teaches………to love one another like ourselves… to love, honor and obey their parents. Families need to stop turn a blind eye to teaching children from a very young age what is God’s plan for them and what our expectations are for them in life. Its as simple as love and treating others with respect. If every single family start practicing this we would have better children. Mothers and Fathers need to be held responsible for their children actions.
Big time gangster / criminal and he was driving a GEO PRIZM. HA HA HA HA
Maybe he commited suicide.
WHERE IS THE CHURCH????????….the “so-called” CHRISTAINS. They need to get down to work….NOW!!! There are SOULS to be Saved.
Nose read the BIBLE? C’mon mam why are you so simple minded.
GIOVANNI “NOSE” LORIANO WAS ACCUSED OF A LOT OF HORRIBLE ACTS OF VIOLENCE INCLUDING HOME INVASION AND RAPE
KEY WORD “ACCUSED”
Its not right to be harsh to this poor woman right now. Its true everybody know who Geovannie was was not good . We have to have a little remorse on the people who are close and related to this person. He might have been bad to others but to his family he was a human. We just have to pray for his dear mother who loved him so much and the rest of his family and close friends. Sometimes people say that children become who are they are raised to be and in this case its not so. Everybody in Lake knows how hard Mrs Lauriano worked to make life better for Geovanni the best but sometimes our kids take their own way. In the end its the close people and friends who are left to suffer. May his soul rest in peace….He is left to answer to God now……..He is the only judge after all……
He may have been a good man to those he knew and to those who were close to him(family), that I can understand… but sadly he did not put this to practice in everything he did. He IS accused of a lot of crimes and he made enemies on the way… I am sorry for his family but this is the consequence of the choices he made. Again… I am sorry for his mother, friends and family.
Also… with all do respect… sometimes our families do teach our youths values, respect and love… but when someone decides to go on another road, diffrent from the one he was shown he becomes responsible for his own choices in life. Most parents believe they have good children at home. Remember that your son will be well behaved when in your presence but do you know what he is doing when you are not there. People need to stop thining less foolishly! Analize and reflect for a few seconds… you may not give a _ _ _ _ about the things you do to other people, but when you are the one who is bieng messed with o hurt or killed, you want something to be done… don’t do unto otheres what you don’t want other do unto you.
only god can judge him; r.i.p. my dear friend……..
this is a sad thing when our own black men are killing each other.do you see the spanish killing each other?
If you want to get a haircut, you go to the barber shop and get it cut, the barber doesn’t come to you.
If you want to eat a good meal you go to the restaurant and buy what you want to eat, the restaurant doesn’t come to you. if you want to change your lifestyle and have peace in the land, away from all the violence and crime, you have to look for God. The church (the people of God) are where they have always been, preaching the Word in the prisons the streets and tv radio and in the temples. trying to help those that WANT to change, nobody can help those that don’t want it. God’s love is free for all who want to have it. God does the work in a person all that believers can do is share his word and His love.
Nose took advantage of lots of people including myself – !! I hate him for that – but the good lord says we shldnt hate; leave it in his hands… but he got what he deserve, he shldve gotten that a long time ago… now he wont hurt anyone now. thank god.
heh its realy senseless. how our country i being run ,di real problem is dat di youth dont gat 2 many choices.we need too unite we can only do it 2gether.
Well, at least justice is being served up cold one way or the in the streets since the police and the justice system keeps on having these criminals walk free in the streets. Just think of it as payback for all the wrong they have done to others in their short lifetime. Like the bible says…”..an eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth…” This is what Belize is coming to nowadays…people are becoming their own judge, jury and executioner in order to serve justice where it is due…..i can’t blame them, justice has to be served some how…..
Who says there is no justice in Belize?
rasheda …… Yes the Spanish kill each other…. with a machete or a knife……
i knew nose very well, lived next too him for a year in hattieville and spent alot of time with him, all i can say is yeah he was a real shotta and this and that but if you got to know him the real him not the man that did what he had to do to survive you might understand, the man knew this day was coming he was well aware but as far as he as a friend son and husband you couldnt ask for a better person. he is greatly missed and belize has only begun to see the bloodshed of his death.
I new Nose Jov in jail, I was der unjust but never less I was there. I met Jov an got to know him you know i can say somehow close. He was an excellent friend, he was there to help when he could. did for me a million favours, I can state that as a friend he was a great one. I am truly sorry what happen, to the family I say be strong, he always had his wife and kid and mother in his mind. He would speak of them with pride and love. He was a good friend. What can I say, lets just remember him.
A lot of people have a lot to say and a lot of people rejoice in death. (Islander this is to you). But you who rejoice in his death, what makes you any better than him? You don’t thank God for death because all of us have our day coming. I don’t believe God is revengeful and He forgives at the last minute. You don’t know what was on Jov’s mind or in his heart in his last minute. Don’t be so quick to judge a man by what the media says. None of us are perfect and we all stumble along the way. Some of us get up and some of us need more time. Like someone said, circumstances make a man.
To the person (BM) who made the comment about God fearing parents with children who don’t fear God…. You yourself obviously don’t know who God is. Many people read the Bible and go to church and are daily sinners. Not because you read the Bible makes you a righteous man. But at least he read it. You don’t know what he gained from that so you should not judge. The way you attack a grieving mother shows that you yourself don’t fear God. Breath is for God and when the sun rises it rises on good and bad alike and none of us are perfect. And let me let you know that grieving parents are indeed consoled by God in thier time of loss. When we cry God cries. He doesn’t turn His back on us no matter what we do and if you are a parent you would know that sometimes parents do thier BEST for children but kids make thier own choices and choices are made based on the circumstances we find ourselves in. This man grew up in a neighborhood where he had to fight to survive and defending himself made him notorious. We can’t keep blaming these young men for the life they lead because it all starts with society and we create it that way. It starts with the education system that kick them out of school and then the government who don’t provide jobs for them. So how are they supposed to eat and provide for thier family? They have to turn to a life of crime because society gives them no other option a lot of the times. We are all to blame. I’m proud that he stood up for himself otherwise he would have been dead long ago!
To (proud Belizean), it is people like you that make Belize what it is and have Belize the way it is with the same behavior and attitude you are expressing. Nobody deserves anything like that no matter how bad they may be. I hope you don’t have children because one day it might hit home and you will know no one deserves to die like that. You should be ashamed of calling yourself a Belizean. You embarass the entire nation with comments like that. This is exactly why the violence never ends. Exactly why everyone is out for revenge…because people think like you. Where is your compassion? Or do you simply not know what that is?
To (QueenBZ & Islander) and any other who have made up that thier minds that Jov is a guilty man, may I remind you that he was ACCUSED but NEVER CONVICTED of any of these offences. A man is INNOCENT until proven guilty and he was NEVER PROVEN GUILTY OF ANYTHING. Jesus Christ was an innocent man too yet, He was crucified by people like you! And unlike most of the other “street figures” who end up being a statistic, Jov was never ever accused of murdering anyone. You people see what you want to see and are quick to judge. If he was guilty of anything leave it up to God. Who appointed you?
To (Wake up Joe), your comment shoes how petty and narrow minded and materialistic you are.
Maybe him driving a prizm should actually be telling you that he was not the bigtime gangster that he is painted to be. At the end of it all I can say that unlike other people who put thier hats higher than they can reach and live a life in debt, Jov lived within simple means and was debt free and not ashamed of the little he had. I guess you must be driving a 2010 something but have no money to put food on the table….c’mon, grow up mein. It seems to me you were dragged up, you show no decency, not even in death. I hope you feel ashamed and remember when you are being insensitive there is a receptive family out there. Death comes to all our doors.
To (Belize First). YOU SHOW ME A TRUE CHRISTIAN! Like (lpo) said: ACCUSED. You said it yourself retard…
To everyone else who stated their opinions with decency in death, towards those that are left to mourn, thank you for your condolences in this time of need. Belize really need more people like you to bring back this country to what is once was. People like you are the onesn who should call themselves proud Belizeans and Christians. May God FORGIVE and Bless us all.
Mek i tell unun somethin bout nose u c him n his little rat lookin fren…he next!…He try my life more than once and he was one of the put put gun men so noh d sorry fi he and if u his fren nuh play loss…ih dead now just like my thug deh chance d same night biggie R>I>P….Rasheeda spanish kill each other to deh just deal with machette…but d war ting who gat visa goh da foreign…who gat cement house stay inside n who nuh have none stay low n of the street cuz its on….i told yall u aint seen the half its just started….big money d spend fi man head right now so till G>O>B could match hit money then po belize
Remember the Pot Pot shooting that killed about 3 persons and left several others injured! read between the lines!!!!….. i wasn’t surprise at all, Nose knew his back was againts the wall. always remember people the world is round. if you have a chance just go to this funeral an see how sad this would be
its about time nose kick the bucket, SIN!!! u dont sorry for ppl like that….
@ BM… Well said..
CHOOSE HE LIFE-STYLE and IT USUALLY ENDS UP IN JAIL OR……….. DEAD!!! I hope that the young ones are TAKING HEED. CHOOSE LIFE…………..
His family and friends will swear he was the best person on earth cause he obviously provided for them and took care of their needs and read di bible(probably missed the part about the ten commandments)….to those he hurt and people outside he is just a criminial and they might feel he deserved what he got…..in the end he is in a better place where he can hurt no one and no one can hurt him…..
YEAH I ONLY PUT ACCUSED BECAUSE …….. WILL NOT PUBLISH THIS STORY WITHOUT THAT WORD IN IT…. YOU CAN SEE FROM THE COMMENTS ON THIS PAGE THAT MANY OF US KNOW WHAT NOSE WAS GUILTY OF.. BELIZE IS BETTER OFF HE DIDN”T DESERVE TO BE IN OUR COUNTRY
Dang!!! Never thought this would be so soon!!! I’m gonna miss u so much!!! You were like a brother to me!
People: he did a lot of wrong things but everyone makes mistakes. Let God do all the judgement
It’s absolutely pathetic that so many of you have no compassion. Whether he deserved to die this way or not, it’s not your job to decide. It’s amazing that so many of you found your voice in his death. Why is it that you’re not using your energy and a little backbone to stand up against the violence in the beginning. So many of you are complaining yet you’re too much of a coward to speak up in public. Being critical of his mother and the rest of his family doesn’t make you impressive at all. I’m a foreigner to your country, I’ve visited Belize and fell in love with the place. Your comments on this website leaves a lot to be desired, especially for other people who might want to visit your country. Judging by your comments, most of you seem self righteous. God is a forgiving and merciful God. Who among you have not sinned?{a sin goes far beyond the 10 commandments.} Maybe It’s time to do a little self and heart examination and then you go ahead and cast the first stone. Instead of spewing bitterness and hatred how about asking Jesus to come into your heart. He will teach you how to love and be compassionate. Please remember Jesus forgave the people that crucified him, and he can and will forgive you too for being so quick to judge and full of hate. THIE MAY SURPRISE SOME OF YOU BUT GOD LOVES GIOVANNI TOO!
To (Rejected, Top Dog & Love)
What astonishes me is how completely STUPID you young men are. This is the way it works….I kill you, someone kills me as a revenge for your death. NONE of us actually lives. You think taking an enemy out will make your life longer or better?
Maybe it will for 2 weeks, 2 months or more. But tell me this…what kinda time is that? NONE. What kind of life do you live when you have to sleep with your eyes open and constantly be looking over your shoulders? You are all ridiculously stupid and should be ashamed to open your mouths. You are all cowards out there on the street and NONE of you can approach a man and solve a problem like a man. That’s why it took 3 cowards or more to shoot down a man who had nothing to defend himself with. YOu are all such cowards that one of you couldnt do it. It had to be 3 or more. So what do you want now? A trophy? You are the scum of the earth and people like you have horrific deaths. I’m sure the devil is waiting for you and your name will be called soon. I know and you know that you don’t have much longer. Back to the same cycle. You kill me and then you dead too. YOu kill me and its like you are taking your own life. I never imagined anyone can be so dumb. Now I understand why schools can’t keep trying with people like you. It’s a losing battle. Why don’t we try to make some peace. Stay out of each other’s way and you live, I live, we have a chance at life. You feel proud because you have killed men? You feel proud because you are a monster that shoots people down? I suspect that when you were born none of your balls dropped because you are all still childish. Your minds are green.
You guys assume too much. Like it is assumed Jov was a POt POT shooter. But did anyone see him there? Did anyone see him pull a trigger? Maybe you saw his friends. Maybe you saw his crew. But did you see him?
I have learnt that no one can talk reason to empty heads. I hope you guys sit down to reflect and see the light before you see hell.
To LOVe….no one take advantage of you unless you let them.
Rejected…. who can be bought can be sold. The price you accept to kill a man is the value you sold your soul for.
i really cant believe how people can just make comments like they dont care. No matter what type of life jov lived, he was still somebody’s child, brother, husband and friend and they loved hime very much. It should not take any of us to judge him. My god he is gone and his family is grieving, and as someone said before, it is god who shud judge him not us. He is with his make now and they will sort that out. Just remember, that you should not rejoice for somebody’s loss, cause tomorrow it might be your turn. I lost my dad in december and can tell anyone that loosing a loved one is never easy. My deepest symphaties to the family. ….
DAMN MEINZ I LOVED DAT GUY HE WAS LIKE A BROTHER TO ME,JUST WISH BEST FOR HIS MOTHER HOPE SHE DOESN”T TAKE IT TOO HARD…………BUT NOSE WAS A GOOD PERSON DESPITE WAT HE DID OR DIDN”T DO………….
it is so sad that some people in belize are heart less. i wish we can all come together and enjoy life. Life is so sweet there are a lot to do and explore through books. We need to stop be small minded and expand our horizon but not through killing. Lets just love. Lets love ourselve so we can love one another and stop with the hate and jealousy and revenge. tell me what do you criminals gain from being or doing evil . It doesn’t pay to be ignorant. I guess ignorant is bliss.
