Wrongly shot by cops, Steven Buckley now needs police support
There were plenty grieving mothers and a couple fathers at the Belizeans For Justice press conference on Monday. One man sat amongst the organizers of the group at the head table. That man, Steven Buckley, miraculously survived gunshot injuries to the head. Buckley and co-workers were repairing a building when he was stopped by a police patrol. But before he could exit the vehicle he was shot by an officer. The circumstances of the shooting are still being investigated but Buckley is physically unable to do the quality of work that he was capable of in his trade. Buckley told News Five that life was already hard before he was shot, and he thinks it’s time the Police Department honors their commitment to assist him.
Steven Buckley, Member, Belizeans for Justice
“Right now, me and mi family deh, I get help from mi friends deh and thing. They come around and give me wahn lee help. Right now, the man di chance me and thing—deh the abstract me—the police noh really looking out for me. So weh di go on right now, me and mi family have to fight hard to get it.”
Jose Sanchez
“Do you think the dept is responsible to provide for some of your needs at this time?”
Steven Buckley
“Definitely! I think they fi look out fi we.”
Jose Sanchez
“What made you decide to join this organization?”
Steven Buckley
“Well what I notice is that deh people di help out to at least. Dehn people and Miss Shackron look out for me, dehn give me wah lee stock and lee thing. So I decide fi help them. I decide to get in the party with them understand.”

It is good thing that you joined the organization for justice, continue to seek help from the police and hopefullt they will help out.
good luck.

everyman is held accountable of his own actions, comply then complain, that is what Steven Buckley should have done.
To Cal: Read you news, the man was doing as the cop asked, he was complying and now he is complaining, if you don’t know the history of the story don’t comment; it makes you sound ignorant.
There are always two sides to the story….I have heard both..still not certain where I stand…it sure is a pitty this happened tho. Hopefully he can get the assistance he requires.
the police officer who shot him should be paying this man a monthly salary!!!
common mr jeffries, help this man out.
justice need to be done first. then comes legal settlement which means that if the law enforcement was wrong then the gov needs to pay this person. we as people needs not to jump on any kind of conclusion. let justice be serve.
The cops are liable bring any argument the cops were in the wrong. There is something known as positive identification. You just don’t shoot on someone because he or she might resemble someone you are looking for.In the military one of the Marksmanship principle distinctly say not to shot on something that you do not intend to shoot ..Which means that if you shoot at anything be it an animal or a person then it’s because you intended to do so.
You people sound like fools quarreling about things you only hear. Most people in Belize after doing their mischief and they get caught, they cry the police chance them, come on guys lets grow up that is why our country will always stay the way it is because of our negative mentalities. After this there will be war and all of those people who wrongfuly accuse and and judge those who protect them will suffer just for their tongues, like in el Salvador. The time is comming and we will see how those of you who just write …. go down. Just for your tongue.
Mr. Buckley, u deserved da help u are asking for, it wasn’t ur fault, it was da officer’s fault for not thinking by shooting u. I say we all helpout this gentlemen, from Bz, L.A., N.Y., Chi-town, Mia to London, this men is in need. Bz Police will not change, da system is corrupted, especially if u ‘ve a name Buckley, but if this gentlemen’s name was Musa or Fonseca, he’d be paid!!! May God bless u Mr. Buckley, “Shalom”!!!
I want to comment on Cals “comply then complian” this man was shot aproximately 25ft with a
shotgun while he was exiting the truck as asked by the officers, from your comments its ovious that
you live in the US,believe me brother if you only would saw how officers in Belize speak, communicate and carry themselfs while performing there duties you would understand.Very
few are professionals.
