Unregistered boat near airstrip, unreported, and minister’s friend

In our newscast on Monday night, we reported on an incident involving an abandoned boat at the Municipal Airport in Belize City.  The details did not make it to the daily sitrep from the police, but it was witnessed by many persons who work in the area. What we know is that a boat which was neither licensed nor registered was moored at the end of the airstrip and abandoned sometime on Saturday night.   Security personnel at the airport did not find any identifying tags on the vessel and reported it to the police.  There is a first amateur video and an employee at the airport has provided us another video of the incident which shows the Police Anti Drug Unit’s boat alongside the mystery boat at the end of the airstrip, this was on Sunday.  A plane slowly coasted along the runway to the end where it turned around and prepared for takeoff. The video shows the close proximity that the boat and the persons in it would have had to any plane taxing on the runway before taking off.  The video also shows an armed BDF soldier and another man guarding the scene.  There were two boats on the scene but a short while later a third boat with several men pulled up next to the police A.D.U. vessel.  According to several workers at the airport who wished to remain anonymous, there was a visible exchange between the officers and the men on the third boat, after which a fourth boat also pulled up alongside the first three vessels. The airport employees told News Five that a minister of government and a business partner were in that fourth vessel and a short time later, the police boat was the only one left at the scene. For now their names will not be called.  Today, News Five asked Police Press Officer Fitzroy Yearwood about the mystery boat.

Jose Sanchez

“Something that we didn’t see on your daily sitrep that’s sent to the media is the incident with the A.D.U. and the boat out at the municipal airstrip—no license, no registration, but we didn’t get any info about that officially.”

sgt. fitzroy yearwood

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“Well, Mr. Sanchez you’ll have to allow me time to investigate on that one. I cannot comment on something that I don’t have all the facts about.”

Jose Sanchez

“Because the people who work at the municipal airstrip, they have identified a government minister coming on one of the boats in the area before all three boats were released from the A.D.U.”

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood

“Like I said, I cannot answer something that I don’t have all the facts about it.”

Since we broke this story, there have been numerous comments on our blog. Not all have been posted but there are a number of questions that arise. Was there any cargo on the boats and why was it not reported even though it involved armed officers?

Mr. Yearwood, you are the police press officer for christs sake!!!! how comes you don’t know anything about this incident??? you should be the first to know!!!!…sounds like you’re not doing your job….. He knows a whole lot alright but since it involves a high profile minister he can’t say squat. And i bet that we are never going to hear or see what truely went on with this incident. Clearly the police department is covering up something because the entire incident smells fishy to me. The Antidrug unit, an unregistered boat floating in the sea, an airstrip and a high minister of government all at the same scene at the same time doing what?…hmmm smells real fishy to me….. Come on people talk up!…..air the full video, call the names involved and bring to light whats really going on behind the scenes in Belize becuase the people wants to know. That unlisenced and unregistered boat i bet wasn’t even impounded neither was anyone on those other boats detained and charged with anything. Is it that the minister has the police department in his back pockets? or is it that the minister just waved his ministerial card to the police to prevent them from following protocol in a situation like this?? It’s all pull strings i tell you….it’s not who you know but its who know you…that minister should be ashamed. Anyways if the media doesn’t air it then it will get around one way or the other by word of mouth or the internet…so you all might as well air it already…

We all know that it is a drug boat used for delivering drugs to someone using a plane on saturday night. (test the boat for drugs).
ask the police or the politicians they would know.

  4. Pepe Landero says:

We have rouge cops, and believe me there are rouge ministers as well. I believe you should put the names of those persons so that the Belizean people know what kind of corrupt persons they have in power.

  5. Lany says:

Start calling names, when you hear a squeal follow it and you will uncover the truth.

hmmmmm…what is this? what connection is being transferred at this time…hmmmmmmm…very interested in deed

  7. BT says:

If an elected official and a minister of cabinet appears at a suspected crime scene you (the media) are well within the scope of your duty to ask why he is there. If the presence of a government minister was pertinent to this story in the first place then you should inform your viewers which minister it was. Just saying that a person was at the scene of investigation does not imply that said person was involved in a crime. These are public officials and their actions are the concern of the public who pays their wages and have bestowed authority on them.

  8. vicky says:

They knew exactly what was going on the unregistered boat next to the airport.. Why did they do it in the night? We know what time it is. Its all $$$$$$ baby ! People do any thing for money and they all corrupted, what a disgrace.

  9. Earl Grey says:

THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF THE PRESS here IN BELIZE……… or ……….. CHANNEL-5 WOULD GIVE THE WHOLE STORY. Let the lawyers sort it out later.

  10. Gregorio says:

Like always, this incident will never be heard from again. Maybe one more little report and then…..nothing. U know what? Calling police if there’s a problem, thats waste of time. Take things into your own hands, cuz that bank robbery in Sp. Lookout was completely organized by police. The police distracted people who were on the culprits trail, and this is a fact.

  11. belizeanpride says:

this will end just like the plane remains that we’re found in close the the caye the last time no evidence of anything, Mr. Yearwood might need some wood to fire up the blaze to bring everything to light but seems like some top lighters are having the yearwood deam to cover up all this things under our knowledge. From rogue cops, fake cops, crazy lawyers and rogue ministers, what else do we need to list on.

  12. Elgin Martinez says:

Freedom of the press is very important, that’s the only way we’re going to get some icening on the story.

  13. Elgin Martinez says:

What was the Minister doing out there. From my recollection there isn’t any circle Line in Belize. As a result that boat must have been out there for something.Furthermore if a Belizean Citizen had been murdered the Minister whom ever he is wouldn’t have made it out there.
