Kids kick ball at football summer camp on M.C.C.’s green

For the past two weeks ninety-eight kids have been gathering at the M.C.C. Grounds for a football summer camp. It’s the second annual Smart Four Stars Football Camp and it gives the young aficionados a chance to improve their skills. The participants include boys and girls that are divided into three age groups for more effective training sessions, which focus on discipline. 1. Charlotte Yearwood Martin says:

Yes, this is a good news story. I would love to see more sport activities for our children.

When I look at the international sports, (especially track and field, cricket,) in the Caribbean I wonder why we cannot be represented at such high level like Jamaica, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia. These countries have produced many world class athletes over the past years. So why not Belize? Even in Football, One I can think of is Dwight Yorke (Trinidad) played in the Premier League in Britain. We have to give our children hope, dream to aspire to.

So it may be having kids kicking a ball, but it could lead to big things. Look at South Africa, no one thought they could host such a successful World Cup. You have to have a dream, drive and I suppose the rest will follow. Also good to see girls playing football, there are some fantastic female football players around so keep up the hard work guys.

All sport equal discipline. Having children involved in sports instil discipline, they have to turn up to practice in time, follows rules of the games, being a good team player, and good sportmanship (accepting defeat etc). All these skills are transferable to everyman’s life whether you’re rich or poor.

I enjoy all sports, so I am passionate about this story. Maybe our government would see the benefits of some investment in sports for our youths, eh?
