Youths tell researcher they are at war with police

herbert gayle

Herbert Gayle’s Research also discussed the implications of the rift between the judiciary and the police department. While both are in disagreement, Gayle pointed out that there needs to be more training for members of the police department.  But while the issues with the judiciary can be described as a philosophical difference, the issues that the police have with young men on the streets is one he says is a difference of artillery.  Youths he’s interviewed say they are at war.

Dr. Herbert Gayle, Social Anthropologist

“There is a war going on between the youth and the police and I’ll tell you literally that young men told me when Operation Jaguar started they said dads, let me tell you straight up. Long, long time we begging them carry a war because we ready. We’ve been begging them for years to come up with something that have teeth to come and attack us because they have no idea how angry we are and how ready we are. A young man said to me every single police department in the world have a legitimate frame of what size gun they can carry, we have none. We have no international rule that says our Chinese A.K. can’t bark. People need to begin to understand this little thing called policing. It’s muy importante. You can’t have a central political authority without a face. This is what is not seemingly coming into the brain of Caribbean people. If you have a bad police force, the entire government is bad because it’s the face of the state. It’s the part of the state that young men see very day. They don’t see the government, they see a police officer. What is the core thing we found? No social distance between the police and the criminal. The police we interviewed—over seventy police we interacted with—they had no money, they were broke, they were taking the bus, they were driving vehicles in the night without light and without brake. Understand that these are human beings. When I spoke to police officers and I said to them unu hustle don’t?  Straight up thing because this is research.  Everybody say yeah. And it’s logical that you must hustle. Since this research has started, there have been six police names that have been called, connected to extrajudicial killings.  My concern as a researcher is not whether or not it is true. I’m not a judge, that’s not my problem.  My problem is that your names can be called, that’s A and B, people believe it.  Now if your name is called A and B people believe it, it has implications for how much policing you can do.”

What are the toy soldiers with real guns fighting for?

If their vehicles are not mechanically sound, are these officers reporting this to their superiors & what is being done? A vehicle is a weapon & one with no breaks on our narrow streets can be deadly.

As long as the government keeps on ignoring the problems of the POVERTY STRICKEN PEOPLE (MOST OF THE POPULATION) believing the problem is only on the SOUTH SIDE, eventually, the masses of the poverty stricken will rise up and revolt.

You don’t have to be rocket scientist to figure it out.

The government is way over it’s head regarding a solution. This problem should be NUMBER ONE on their agenda. Government and people in charge must LISTEN to the people they hire to do surveys & studies (that is if the right experts are hired). Listening must be followed up by IMPLEMENTATION.

Conflict resolution should be added to the curriculum of all the schools. It appears the masses only resolve conflicts with murder. This is a major problem that is being ignored by all those in charge.

The following—- poverty, crime, dealing with the criminals, the Judiciary and education for all —-should be given priority over everything else at this time. Keep on talking with no real action and you will all be doomed. Just a matter of time.

A Question To Mr Gayle The Anthropologist ” How Many Researches Did You Do On Belize Infrastructure And Why So Far All Of Your Findings Are Negative , Was There Any Positive Thing You Might Have Found Out About Our Country?”.
Another Question Is Where Did He Come From And Who Hired Him ?

I agree with him very much. The police is at war with the youths. This is what is causing all the crime in our country. I have observed police beating up young youths for nonsense and when you try to defend yourself – they beat you even more. These police need to be trained and get some arsing themselves. Something needs to be done before the youths really start to WAR with the police department and it will not be funny. I just hope all the innocent and myself are nowhere around when that happens.

I know this place is corrupt from the get go and now its getting worst. I would love to take out majority of the poilce men and women, the government and other crooks and I nuh di talk by vote. This place needs to be run by the U.S or something, caz all neh crooks di fatten neh pockets, and also conduct some investigation on politicians, and make sure what assets they have home and in forein countries, can be accounted during their career.

It’s a shame, hustling the poor people neh, and Barrow, Jeffries know this … yah mein. But let sleeping dogs rest.

herbert gayle should do a research on other parts of the country to find out how come some young men and women grow up poor, poor, but they survive and now they are productive citizens of this country!! You can’t blame everything on the government, or other organization, they chose to live that kind of live. I know there are people who grew up very poor, but they never theif, use drugs, killed or any other crime, but you know why, their parents teach them to respect themselves and other, to work for what they wanted, and parent gave them only what they needed. So what is the big issue about povery, common Dr Gayle, do other research and teach these people how to live in peace with themselves and others, respect is very important. Police officers need need counseling themsleves.
