Attorney says FIU is harassing client with charges

Ernest Raymond Junior was initially charged along with the Coye family in January of 2009 for money laundering. His name came back in the news on a firearm offense. Because of a mix up for transfer documents, the weapon he legally owned did not immediately show up on records. Those charges against Raymond were eventually dropped because of lack of evidence in July, 2009. Now it seems he has one more charge to add and it goes back to the original money laundering charge. This time he is being charged with concealing material likely to be involved in money laundering. Raymond is being represented by attorneys Arthur Saldivar and Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley. In magistrate court today, Saldivar said that his client is being harassed by the Financial Intelligence Unit.

“It basically goes towards saying that there’s a discretion on the part of the judge to halt proceedings where it is deemed that the continuance will be oppressive or unfair to the accused. We are saying that that is the case here. Apart from that we also rely on abuse of process because mainly the FIU had information that they wanted to utilize against this particular accused person well in advance and they basically chose to use one part of it to prosecute another matter and then after that failed they want to bring this one now.”

“The statement you mentioned was given by an inspector in the previous trial, was that statement thrown out because it was a fallacy?”

“It was discredited as much as any statement could be discredited because of its fallacious content and the fact that it exposed a lack of procedural awareness or any adherence to proper procedure.”

“So Inspector Romero’s comment is being brought back again for this particular case?”

“The very same, the very same statement. He is charged with concealing material likely to be involved or likely to be used.”

“But at the end of the day why has the case been adjourned?”
Arthur Saldivar
“The case is adjourned in order for the prosecutor to do its research on the points that were raised in defence that seeks to be a bar because once these points are considered, it should be clear that these proceedings are oppressive and abusive.”
It is alleged that Raymond was found near a white Ford Escort which was registered to Melonie Coye. The vehicle had documents related to the Money International Exchange business that was run by the Coye family. Raymond’s case was adjourned until September sixth.
My name is ms Jones I live in los Angeles California for the past 7 yrs. I had know Mr Ernest Raymond jr for over 15yrs. What the police in Belize need to do is stop the crime an find all these guys that is commited the crime an leave innocent people alone, because I know Mr Raymond is innocent. You mean he beat the other charge on a technicality & the “liad” policeman did not see him near the car with the incriminating evidence but if he did that was not his car, it was registered to someone else. The same way no one videotaped the abandoned boat at the air strip. The “liad” policeman planted a gun on someone jurors failed to convict of murder two weeks ago.
Who is supposed to protect you all the next time one of your clients is acquitted & exits the court house only to be greeted by gunfire, hopefully not the “liad” policeman.
