PROTO reaches out to Tarell Sutherland
There’s another child that need your help. Tarell Sutherland’s story first became public last November when his family made an appeal for financial assistance because he was born with a rare skin disease. He was in dire need of treatment because his condition caused him constant pain. Since then Tarell has been abroad for treatment and has had many ups and downs along the way. And tonight, the now five year old boy is again in need of your help to return to Texas for another treatment regimen. The organization, People Reaching Out To Others (PROTO) helped raise funds for Tarell after the first appeal and they have once again taken up the task. PROTO has secured a donation of two plane tickets from Continental Airlines, but the cost of the treatment and incidentals still needs to be covered. Mark Usher, the Director of PROTO, told us they have a three dimensional plan to meet their target of twenty thousand dollars.

“On Saturday now they will be able to purchase Barbecue. We hope to get probably two hundred and fifty plates of barbecue sold that day and all the proceeds, every single dollar will go to the drive for Tarell’s medical attention. So that’s Friday and Saturday. Now, aside from that we have been doing a kind of makeshift telethon since Monday. I have again used my house and my kids are on holiday so they have been manning the phones. The number is 223-2730 and people have been calling and making pledges and they have been getting the information on the account and donating directly to the account to put the cash there. I wanna say first, thanks to Manny and Freddy who do this big promotion dance at Club Next, I think it’s the Stress Free Friday’s. Well, these are young men who have big hearts. They have actually donated fifty percent of their door that they will get this Friday’s dance to the baby Tarell drive. And also we’re talking to the promoters of the one at Palm Island, French Kiss. DJ Dalla and the folks have also committed to part proceeds for anybody who attends their dance on Friday. Youth connection band has offered free of cost to come and do a dance, a fundraising dance. We’re going to have this dance at Tropicana Lounge Friday night. Tropicana Lounge is right at Fort Street Plaza. So whole hundred percent of that door goes to baby Tarell.”
You’re invited to male pledges at Saturday’s barbecue.
