I hope this man is not being prosecuted to appease someone. If this was an accident & he was not drunk, was not breaking any laws & a rider wearing head phones swerved in front of him, let it go. Our roads were not designed for the amount of traffic we now have.

  2. Bold says:

I second that. Everything points to the fault being that of the teen. Riding unsafe due to using ipod. Good luck Jex.

  3. Oscar965 says:

I know i will be criticized for saying this but “BZNinCali” has a very good point. There are rules and regulations that everyone should follow if you want to be on the road. Some how people on bicycles think that the rules dont apply to them. If you live in Belize let me ask you to do this, count the first ten bicycles that you see, and tell me how many have lights, reflectors or bells. I have not once but twice almost knocked down people on bikes and that is because there are no lights or reflectors. Years ago bikes were forced to have all of the above but i guess the authorities responsible are too busy or simply dont care. If you use a bike, invest in lights, reflectors and a bell, it might save your life. The bike rider who died could have caused his own death by being careless. Listining to your ipod, texting, chatting on the phone while on your bike, are all NEW DANGERS OF THIS MODERN AGE we live in and can lead to death.

I have seen children in Belize riding on bicycle from one side of the road to the other, we dont know exactly what happen but base on the report it seems like the young man was at fault having on an i-pod and all. Ihope the court take in consideration that the driver stopped and gave assistance, he did not hit and run. Why does he have to pay a high bail and be locked up when apparently it was an unforseen accident. Belize needs to put the bicycle helmet law in effect seeing we have so many riders on the streets.

I THINK THE ROADS OF BELIZE SUCK

  6. belizeanpride says:

i agree with all of the above new regulations should be implemented for bike riders to avoid thisc ase that brings chaos among the family victim and the drivers

  8. lupe says:

Maybe it was the child’s fault but remember we all have family that loves us and feels pain when something bad happens to us. Maybe by just driving a little bit more careful we can avoid a few accidents that can cause lives. Sometimes we just rush and don’s realize how we drive until we do things we don’t mean to do. My deepest sympathies to that child’s family.

  9. So Disappointed says:

I agree with all of the above…..First of all I agree bicycle riders behave as if they are above the law and their mind set is….the driver better watch out for me because I own the road and if they hit me they will pay….I think that is very unfair for drivers. Belize roads are so narrow and everyone drive so fast, you have to watch for the chickens, the cows, the goats, the dogs and the drunks and the children when driving these roads because they all think it is the responsibility of the drivers to watch out for them, they take no responsibility for also using the roadways. This could have happened to any of us, no matter how careful you are on the road as a driver all these other users of the road think they have no responsibility when they are using the road and they do. They should be just as aware of the road as the drivers are and then maybe we will all be safe. I am sorry for the parents and family of the child and I am sorry for the driver and his family. This will affect both families for the rest of their lives and that is unfortunate.

I agree that everyone have feelings and will hurt over the loss of a family member and I feel for the family that lost thier son but, from what I understand Kenny was not at fault and should not be treated like a criminal and judged as one. I don’t think his bail should have been that harsh, it was not his fault and I am sure he feels bad for what happened.
I wish you the best with this Ken and hopefully it is over soon and you can move on with your life.
    So sad.

  11. Coolie says:

I am really sorry for what has happened to the driver in this accident, Jex, but as we all know even if you are in the right, you are in the wrong because a life has been taken. I have had many close calls myself for nearly hitting someone, jaywalking, jay”riding” , drunk driving, or just drunk riding as well! And the driver is always in the wrong, i can only hope and pray he gets off on all counts as this accident was on behalf of the youth. I also hope the family of the youth realizes that this was an accident and the driver did stop and render assistance. My prayers for both families as indeed a life has been lost, and i pray for a positive outcome….

Agree with you 100% ‘So Disappointed’ I think the same charges used against motorists when you get in an accident should be applied to cyclists and pedestrians. They walk or ride in the path of traffic and expect motorists to read their minds and know that they are going to do it. Then we get charged with “driving without due care and attention”. How more attentive can we be? Do they expect motorists to be mediums or psychics and figure ahead of time what the cyclists is planning to do next. There is only so much a motorist can do to prevent an accident, the cyclist or pedestrian has to also do his part to make sure one doesn’t happen. What happen to the rules of (a pedestrian or cyclist) crossing the road? “LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE CROSSING”. It seems that the more civilized we get, the dumber we get.
A life was lost as a result of carelessness and it could have been prevented only had he obeyed the rules of crossing the road.

  13. Manford says:

During the colonial day when there were far lest traffic, we had to have a bell, light ay night and licence our bicycles and the brake had to be in working order to get the bicycle licence. Only one person was allow to be on a bicycle. Further, a cyclist had to ride with the flow of the traffic. To show that we are insependent we got rid of all those well thought out systems. A do as you please society that tickle down in every fabrick of the society. Yes indeed many of the cyclist ride as if though they have a death wish. Its quite fortunate that more of them have not been knock down on a daily basis. The authorities must take back this country and let these kids know that a well run society benefits all.

These days any amount of individuals can be tansported on a bicycle, which causes the a lact of proper controll. Its common to see someone riding with a child in his/her hand and one on the cross bar also. This should not be allow, as well as riding against traffic on any side of the street. If the public cannot exibit proper common sense then they must be made to follow regulated procedures. But this is better said than done because the weak politicians can’t be tough for fear of not been like.

  14. bob says:

If everyone can get off their high horses, they will find that in no way do Dale’s family hold kenroy to blame and have told the police that it was Dale’s fault and requested that they and the public prosecution drop the prosecution of kenroy who has been traumatised by the fact that he killed their son.
