Hollywood actors give to kids while filming Hookup in Belize

Two US movie and television stars caused a stir at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on Wednesday. Patients and visitors were excited to see Brody Hutzler of soap operas such as the Young and Restless and Days of Our Lives. He was accompanied by a film crew and Rudy Youngblood of the mega hit movie, Apocalypto. Both are in the Jewel working on a pilot for a United States television show called Hookup. Part of the deal is that they contribute to worthy causes, thus their appearance at the K.H.M.H. News Five’s Sanchez joined the film crew at the hospital.

Rudy Youngblood, the breakout star of the film Apocalypto, which chronicled a Mayan’s journey through Central American jungles to survive, made a surprise appearance at the pediatric ward of the K.H.M.H. earlier this week.

“This organization brought me down to do a little bit of fishing and also to deal with the patients here, the kids. I felt obligated to share with everyone what I’m passionate about and to uplift them and to never ever forget this moment that I’m gonna share with them.”

Jose Sanchez

“Rudy, I understand you’re a native American. What tribes are you mixed with?”

Rudy Youngblood

“I’m Commanche and Cree, full blood.”

Jose Sanchez

“I understand you’re also a great dancer of your native American dances?”

Rudy Youngblood

“In that world I’m known for that and also my family and also for my singing. I didn’t bring my drum but I brought my flute so I’m gonna play my flute for the kids as well and I hope everybody enjoys it.”

According to the producer, Youngblood and a soap opera star Brody Hutzler are here working on a pilot for a U.S. television show called HookUp.

Melissa Tracy, Producer, Hookup

“Hookup is about basically reaching new adventures for our guests and taking our TV audiences to exciting new places where they’ll learn how to fish, cook, and conserving the fish as well as we’ll be donating to charities as we go around the world. When we found out about this hospital in Belize we wanted to make sure that we took care and donated proceeds from the documentary and TV shows and also we ask our celebrities donate to the cause as well.”

Jessica Wen, Host of Hookup

“I speak Taiwanese—there are a lot of Taiwanese here so I was very excited—broken English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and a little bit of French. So I love traveling. When I found out about the show I was like wow, this is an amazing job. I would love to travel, do charities, meet people, do adventure and crazy things and at the same time introduce amazing people, amazing series to the world.”

Brody Hutzler, who works on both small and big screen productions, believes that Belize has potential for international development.

Brody Hutzler, Actor

“The one most recently is Days of Our Lives. I played Patrick Lockhart and I was kind of a good guy and a bad guy. I was everything; good guy, bad guy, you name it. I was on Young and the Restless for a long time and Guiding Light; I’ve kind of done them all but I think the most recent was Days of Our Lives.”

Jose Sanchez

“I think my grandmother has probably seen them all. The little that you’ve seen so far, do you see Belize as a potential destination for more movies?”

Brody Hutzler

“Absolutely, it’s a great place to work. Everybody is friendly and the land and the scenery is perfect. There’s so many cool things you can do here. We were out on the water today and it was beautiful. I want to come back again.”

Jose Sanchez

“So far what is your impression of Belize? And did you catch anything on the sea today?”

Rudy Youngblood

“I did, I caught a suntan. I’m burnt. I caught a barracuda and a bunch of other stuff. It was beautiful, the water was beautiful. I had to jump in the water and go swimming so I had a great time.”

In addition to donating a portion of their earnings to the ward, Youngblood performed a traditional dance of the Cree and Commanche Nations for the kids. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

The actors and their production crew leave Belize on Saturday. In addition to fishing, they also took their catch to local restaurants to be prepared and served in local recipes; all of which will be shown on the pilot that they hope will premiere on Fox Network.
