UB’s 4th annual Natural Resources Mgmt Research Symposium

The University of Belize (UB) through the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) and its partnership with the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation (MSBC) is hosting the fourth Annual Natural Resources Management (NRM) Research Symposium. The two day symposium begins on Tuesday at the University of Belize (UB) Jaguar Auditorium, in Belmopan. The theme for this year’s symposium is: “Exchanging research knowledge to promote sound decision-making for natural resource management in Belize.”

Researchers from the ERI and UB NRM students will be joined by local and international counterparts conducting research in Belize to present their latest findings in the field of natural resources management. The symposium will include both oral and poster presentations on biodiversity conservation and the management of marine protected areas, as well as special invited guests discussing petroleum operations in Belize and the impact on the environment.

Every year the symposium presents a unique opportunity for natural resources managers and researchers to discuss the most recent developments in the field and contribute to the body of scientific knowledge needed to sustainably manage Mesoamerica’s natural resources.

  1. Earl Grey says:

The MOST IMPORTANT NATURAL RESOURCE IN BELIZE IS ……………THE PEOPLE….especially the young people. They need to be sustained and managed too.

  2. Natural Resources Management Student says:

@Earl Grey [Two years later] that is precisely what Natural Resources Management is all about. It’s an environmental approach where it investigates the way in which we, the people, manage our resources. How we impact it and how we could differ those impacts for a better quality of life which in turn produces a better environment. We can’t talk about protecting resources without changing the way people thing and the way we live. In other words, we have to ‘manage’ people in order to protect the environment.
